Ships T7 Now or never?

So I'm currently working towards a larger ship (such as a FDL or Python) for general combat but I can't decide if I should maintain being in an Asp or move up to a T7 once I have the funds. Sure... the Asp has less cargo space but it has more range/agility whereas the T7 has the opposite.

good god, the T7 is a flying brick. If anyone tries to interdict you, you will fail the minigame 80% of the time if they have a decent interdiction equipped. Sure it carries more cargo, but with completely zero ways of defending itself even against npcs what is the cargo good for if it doesnt get to its destination? Theres also the weird cockpit placement. its on the bottom of the ship so when you're trying to fly through the mail slot, you have to practically be able to kiss the bottom of it with your cockpit in order not to bump your ship. Id honestly stick with the asp. the negligible increase in cargo capacity isnt worth the trouble. I upgraded to a T7 and on my first run was immediately shot down. LLOL

I would skip the T7 and go for a Clipper. Only a little bit more expensive, but carries more cargo and is much more versatile. Plus it's sexy as hell.

Flew a T7 for a bit before the Empire ships announcement, then traded it in for a Clipper. In case you didn't know, a few days ago on Galnet it was announced that Clippers and Couriers can now be bought with any Empire rank (in reality, Serf or higher). As said already the Clipper carries a bit more, looks better both from the cockpit and from the outside, is much faster and easier to escape with, and can be kitted for combat once you get more money. Go to Kamito and you can get one for ~18 mil, but you need to fly elsewhere for upgrades.

The T7 is slow, especially watch for vertical positioning entering the stations and never ever try smuggling with it, it gets scanned every time in or out of the station. T7 can still get away from NPCs, I was interdicted a few times but was able to evade successfully. Never had to submit but if you're not sure about your skill at avoiding interdictions against NPCs, just submit, chaff, and charge your FSD right away. If you get a decent power plant you can equip SCBs and chaff, point defense, etc. for more survivability. The high mass can avoid mass lock from most of the ships that NPCs try to interdict you with. Fun fact, the T7 yaws just about as fast as it pitches, which isn't really useful IMO but you might find a use for that. Maybe makes it easier for mining...

How long does it take to get to Serf? I'm normally in Fed Space but currently in the Empire for credits.
Took me 2 rank up missions, but i was already on friendly terms with the empire from selling exploration data. Of course it can be a lottery as to when and which missions appear, just have to be a little patient.

And a minimally equipped T7 is 19MCr, an equivalent Clipper has 24 more cargo, and a longer jump range for 23MCr.

I wanted to fly the T7, I really did, but you can't argue with those numbers. Maybe I'll get one for a mining ship...

The Type-7 is a flying brick, steers like a cow and is outclassed by the clipper in every regard..

and I really miss mine :(. There was a certain satisfaction in pulling off a smooth boosted docking in it I've not had from another ship, that and the challenges it allows you to set yourself like not running from interdictions but trying to fight in it (PvE only I wouldn't advise PvP in it :p)

Once I get back from exploring I'm buying one, probably for mining with a bright red paintjob :).

if you want to fly one get one and try it out I'd say, if you decide you don't like it it's only a 1.7m loss at the end of the day which you can make up with one hour of trading in it easy.

Who would get a T7 if they could afford something more expensive?
I certainly wouldn't get an Eagle if I could afford a Viper or a Vulture.

T7 is for people in a T6 or Asp and they're looking to make more per run so they can get to the ship they really. Because no one really wants to be a trader.
