T7 to Python Question

OP. I understand your concern for needing 5x rebuy. I commend you for that effort but consider this. Zaonce (? someone correct that spelling if it is wrong) has a sale on the Python. You can pick up the hull for about 48 million. A huge savings. Plus the Python can land at the smaller pads, which typically has better profits. Further more the Python can carry more cargo. Everything points to you making more money faster by moving to the python. If you have 100 mil you can pick up a trade python now for 55 mil if you use this loadout. That's right, you can fit a trade python for 55Mil. There are many modules you can instantly downgrade for a trade python. You don't need a great power supply, they are over powered as it is. IMO you should head over to Zaonce at once and grab a Python!

Edit: Fixed some prices

If you plan to do rares runs : stick to Asp. T7 is too big for rares, and worthless in a tight spot.
If you got a solid route go for T7 and mass trade your eyes out for a python ehhh no 2 , one for trade and one for combat.

Cheers Cmdr's

Coming from a Tycoon rank in trade. If your just looking to make pure money, you should no longer be doing rare runs in a T7. Standard A-B trade will make way more money per hour than rare runs. Just my humble opinion. As a matter of fact, when it comes down to profit per hour. Anything past the T6 should just do standard. You should be able to push 1.5-2mil and hour in well fitted T6/ASP. In a T7 2.5-3mil. Python 3mil. Others will tell you can make more which is true ut those numbers are not too hard to get.

Ok, quick update heres the current fittings I was able to afford with around 5 mil in reserve. I've Christened her Bessie the Space Cow.

I will upgrade the fsd after I get more funds, I'm currently sitting at a high tech site with some decent High Demand in Gold, Silver, Palladium, Platinum compared to the Galactic Average. And some good buying prices on Robotics and Auto Fabricators that they have a High Supply of.

I've started checking the refinery and extraction systems nearby, but they all seem to only sell minerals, anyone know where theres a system that sells gold, silver, palladium, platinum?

Side Note: I might put shields back on her, she gets stuck soo easily in the mail slot, had 3 close calls already and I havent even had her an hour yet :D (I'm enjoying the challenge though)
Yeah I just got one myself and plowed into a few things before I figure out the T7 cockpit is low compared to the centerline of the ship, extremely low compared to anything that I'd flown before. So the majority of the ship behind you is actually sitting above your viewpoint, as you can see from the cockpit positioning in your screenshot. Once I'd figured that out, I just remember to stay a bit lower than I normally would going through the mailslot, and I haven't had trouble since.

Ah thank you guys +rep when I get back on my PC, yea soon as I got to Vega yesterday and saw the amount of rates available I immediately started looking for good normal commodity runs, I'm happy to report that I found a 1 jump 1600 Cr per ton profit one way with a 275 Cr per ton profit back brining me to a nice 410k Cr round trip that takes 6 mins there and back. I managed to go from my 5 mil (after buying and outfitting the t7) to 28 mil, I'm heavily considering selling my vulture and just keeping my explorer Asp and bh sidey as my back up ships. That will put me at 52 mil, so I think I'll grind another 10 mil out trading then go get my python (trading in the t7 as well for another 21 mil) and go back to trading in the python till I can do the 170 mil Cr outfit I decided on. Thanks again guys, you've been awesome with the help!

OP, if you are not dead-set on the straight route to a Python, another answer to your question may also be: Take an intermediate step from T7 -> Imperial Clipper -> Python.

"lazy" layouts - with docking computer and shields, so I can spend the docking procedure for researching trade routes and can afford a bad aim when undocking (not too) quickly

T7: http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=60X,mpW01Q0_g,2-4s8S7_6u5K5K8I,0AA0AA08c08c0727Re03w0nE
Imp. Clipper: http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=603,mpW01Q0_g,2-6QA07_8S8S8S6k,0Bk0AA0720727Pc05U03w0nE

While the T7 is significantly cheaper than the Clipper and can carry almost as much cargo, the Clipper is significantly more maneuverable, cutting both the time required for each trade run and the frequency of interdictions. There are already some good threads on this forum and on reddit. The significant drawback of the Clipper, depending on your affiliation, would be the time spent on grinding up reputation in the Empire. OTOH, the Clipper can later be re-equipped as a PvE combat ship, augmenting the Vulture in your portfolio.

Yep, A-rate the FSD, and at least C-rate the power plant, so you can chain-jump more easily. However, it would be better to use the T7 to pay for an entry level trade-fit Python, and then use that to trade up to bigger things- it's a better trade than the T7 (more cargo space, can use medium pads, still has decent jump range).

This.

As far as my experience goes i reckon you're better off running a regular commodities route with a T7 in terms of credits/hour due to the limited supply of rares and the time to collect them at the hub areas (e.g. Lave area).

When I had a T7 i could make between 2-2.5m per hour on my route so getting the say another 35-40m to allow you to part-ex your T7 will see you into your Python fairly quickly.

Don't get me wrong the Clipper is a very sexy ship, but I'm a Federation man, and I'm quite proud of my Unfriendly rep with the Empire (though it just dropped back to neutral from testing trade runs :( ) I appreciate the advice though! +rep

We are very close in terms of having the same route/setup :) My B system ranges from 486 cr pr/t to 870 cr pr/t, back to A is 1776 cr pr/t. 232/t on the T7 total time round trip is 13 minutes if I don't dilly dally. Can smell the Python from here!! :)

Godspeed on Python Acquisition Commander! (the race is on! :D )

You have already won my friend!! I think you mentioned you have around 52 mil? I have 20... :( not counting my other ships..

If I sell my Vulture, I almost did it, 2x now, but she was my original goal ship, I'm sentimental about her, so your barely behind atm!

Is the Python discount at one system ? Or everywhere ??

(Been on shift work so am out of the loop).

I would have to sell all my ships though..... Still Tempted!
