T9 or T10 for new mining? I can't decide.

T9 can carry 512 cargo and everything I want including a Fuel Scoop. But is 5 hardpoints enough for doing every type of mining?
Can it even carry enough ammo to fill up the ship?

T10 - hardpoints for Africa, can only carry 400 cargo with compromises for loadout. 384 cargo with slightly less compromises.

Can't decide.

I'm addicted to moar Cargo space. It just feels better. And running 8 Collector limpets is very satisfying for old fashioned mining.

Release some super massive ships Frontier.

The key to a true deep space mining T9 with fuel scoop & SRV is what the Synthesis receipes for Seismic and Sub Surface missile ammo are.
Which I have no idea. This could make the ship self-sustaining outside of the Bubble.

Didn't enjoy the T10 for new-mining, it's not the best for spinning around aiming at stuff. I would imagine the T9 would be even worse. YMMV

To expand on my previous reply, I guess it depends what sort of mining you want to do but the T10 just makes the entire operation much "sharper" IMO.

I was initially dubious about swapping from a T9 to a T10 cos it meant reducing the amount of limpets I can use but the T10 can power (IIRC) a pair of medium mining lasers and a pair of small mining lasers for long enough to deplete a 'roid without needing to recharge the PDist - and, of course, still have enough hardpoints for defence.

Personally, my entire mining "system" is based around the concept of getting 256t of stuff as quickly as possible.
I don't want more than 256t of stuff because a) that's enough mining for me and b) 256t can be loaded into my "delivery van" Python and taken anywhere (including platforms) to be sold.

FA-OFF is fine, honeslty can't see why it would be an issue FA-ON (unless all you are used to flying is an Ieagle).

@OP - Am using the T9 for short range all round mining due to it's huge freight capacity.

Will be running a 400 tonne capacity T-10 for long deep space motherlode hunting trips. Basically just loaded up with Seismic charges, nets anywhere from 80 to 100 mllion cr profit.

Also need to check what synthesis is like.

I think I like the T9 because it is imperfect. And truly industrial. It being defenseless is indeed a major negative. But I'm not afraid of any NPC whilst flying a T9.

.

What size Fuel Scoop and how many Collector limpets in that configuration?

I took screenshots of the build in beta, am not at home right now. I'll send you the full build later

Hmmm, I have a small piece of advice for the OP:

"For the new style mining? Neither..."

The explanation being that the new style mining basically splits space mining in two styles:
-Core mining, which is geared for small, quick ships. It is a low tonnage, high value activity (going for gems) you won't be able to fill a 200+ tons of gems while keeping your sanity.
-Laser mining, which is the classic mining style we know, well suited to large ships with lots of internals.

The python and Krait II are small enough yet equipped enough to manage both styles of mining well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend an even smaller AspX for core mining. You want something quick and that can fit between large chunks of rock.

And tonight I'll be updating the mining guide in my sig. (The big reason I did the research and testing in Beta, heh)

Yeah, I really hope the Python is not again the best answer when the final release ships tomorrow. If the Python is a better miner than the Type-9/10 in the new update then something has indeed gone horribly horribly wrong. Overall I am positive about the update (I can't wait to go exploring again), but yeah I am getting super tired of the Python being the right answer to earn the most money in almost every situation. Why even bother having the large ships at this point when you can do it all in the Python?

Ha! I've had a Python parked in Ray Gateway waiting. But yeh, I agree.

I assembled and engineered an Adder for trying out the new mining.

I figured that if I actually built a proper mining machine, with the old style mining lasers, etc, I'd just stick with the old style - since it's far more efficient.

I'm hoping it is as I already have a Python miner. Why shouldn't a manoeuvrable medium ship be a good choice for mining amongst rocks in an asteroid belt?

It's not that. It's that the Python is too good at too many things. Let me ask: why shouldn't an Imperial Cutter be better than a Python at haulage missions? Why does the Python always have to be the best ship?

There is one ship in the whole game that is able to do the high paying 180-200t outpost haulage missions. Guess which one?

Now this ship is going to be the best miner as well?

It is disheartening if you are a fan of the larger ships. The Python deserves its niche but I shouldn't be forced to keep one in my fleet because the economic potential of that ship is so much higher than everything else.

Let ships like the Type-10 be good at one thing at least.
