How likely are you to make a fast trip back to a station to sell your data in order to tag a good system?
I was only about 2,500Ly out a few days ago when I found an untagged system with an ELW and two terraformable water worlds.
It was the first, or one of the first untagged systems I hit on my way out so it was in a well explored, high traffic area.
I debated with myself for a minute as to whether to head back quickly to sell it and get the tag. Obviously you can't do that for every ELW or interesting system you find or you'd never make any progress, but....
I was not very far out, which means the trip back would be quick, the desirability of this system is higher than one further out, since it's more likely to be visited by others, and the odds of someone else finding it before I returned to sell the data is higher than a system further away.
I was tempted for minute, but it's just one ELW and although tags are a factor, it's not the main reason to explore.
Then I looked to see if there were any deep space outposts nearby, and it turns out, there was. So I said, I might as well go see this deep space asteroid base just to visit, and if they have a UC office, I might as well sell what I have. I ended up diverting about 900Ly or about 18 jumps in my 51Ly ASP.
Have you every diverted or raced back from a trip in order to get a tag on a desirable system? What's the furthest you've diverted or returned get a tag?
I think the temptation would only be there if you're not far away. The further out you go, the return time increases and it's less likely anyone else would find it.
But for a high traffic system like Sag A* or someplace new that will become high traffic due to it's uniqueness, I would be tempted to rush back no matter how far way.
