I recently came back from a 3 week trip to the crab pulsar and surrounds. No shields and, as I found out, 50% hull integrity and sunburn from my first ever binary roasting at NGC 2264 SECTOR UO-Q D5-16.
Made it to founders world and thought YES, I'm back safe, and I proudly stuck it through open. So I get to the station, heart slowing down, only to be greeted with the biggest lag fest I have ever experienced, commanders warping everywhere.
I just aimed at the hole and gritted my teeth hoping I wouldn't hit anything. I made it, thankfully. But I learnt two important lessons that trip.
1. Unless you really need that extra light year or so reach where you are going, take a shield.
2. When you've spun out of supercruise and are sitting on the belly of a sun, staring into another sun, the phrase "align escape vector" means you will be buying more laundry powder in the morning.
