Take your time Frontier

Please please don't rush it out! As a kickstarter there is no external publisher pushing you guys to get the game out asap is there? I remember Gametek and First Encounters. How all the fans rushed out to get a copy and found it a buggy mess. As for X Rebirth lets not go there. I don't care how long you take to test it or how long the Beta phase is ( I didn't go for that myself, don't feel knowledgeable enough) the best things are always worth waiting for.:)

19 years since the last Elite.

Rushing at you at the speed of my gran driving her Morris Minor up Hardknott Pass.

+1

It's been many years, a few extra months aren't going to be an issue if the product comes out at top quality!

Les than 2 hours until December for me, but if my read between the lines are not to rusty i think Alpha starts 9 Dec.

Thats when the store opens up for ppl to dl the alpha builds.

Yes we will DL alpha/beta builds from the store ... perhaps alpha will start when the store will open or not ... Only FD will decide when the alpha will start ;)

Personally i'd be just as happy if Frontier decided to add an extra year on their development time. I'm more concerned they get this right first time out of the gate rather than meeting a deadline.

Welllll, maybe not a year, lol... Actually it raises an interesting point for me though. Here we are about to start Alpha. We have no NDA, we can freely stream, record/upload and comment on the build. I believe we the community have the responsibility to really help Frontier make the right calls here if we discover that Elite isn't quite ready.

Obviously WE don't decide when a game is officially ready, but constructive feedback is obviously important, but don't forget the public nature of this. By that i mean anyone streaming and recording is also helping shape other people's first impressions.

We have seen what can happen when a game comes out half baked and i am certainly glad at the high quantity of backers being involved in the Alpha and more so Beta to help Frontier... I have seen videos in the past of Alpha builds and Beta and they are almost recorded as game reviews and alas the internet often treats them that way. People see bugs and stay clear. Yes they might come back later to check, but first impressions are important.

Anyway, back to the original point, i agree Frontier should take their time if needed and i think Frontier have already planned for that with the Gamma testing cycle as well, so i am certainly not concerned. Quite the opposite.

I posted similar elsewhere but its valid here too.

A really rough alpha launch with every one posting tons of stuff could do some serious damage to the games reputation. I had the luxury of trying the Elder Scrolls Online beta, and after seeing the leaked beta footage from ~ 6 months ago, I didnt even care. I downloaded the client though, willing to give it a shot but I put it off until there was only a couple hour left of beta. My mistake, because it ended up being a great game, and left me really wanting more.

I was ready to just throw out the entire concept of buying the full release just on some really bad beta footage. Theres thousands more who saw the same footage and will likely never buy ESO despite it being an actually good title.

Moral of the story? First impressions are a . Lets do this right.

I suggested previously that Frontier put a fixed "Alpha Build 1.2.345" watermark in one of the upper corners of the screen... to keep things in perspective for any potential viewers. Some people would probably object to have that distraction there but I think it would be valuable to maintain the reputation of the game.

I agree entirly Jabokai, I work for a software company and it is very important for users and anyone watching videos to be able to easily spot that the alpha testing will be done on a development build rather than any final release.

as long as there is an open beta for everyone in March, yeah maybe

but the clock is ticking

the sooner the game is out, the sooner some revenue gets in

I intend to make sure that any videos I put up will have some indication of the build version. Otherwise it will be very difficult to compare apples with apples. So if FD can default the alpha build to have a watermark, that would be helpful.

I just noticed that the game they're playing the latest Dev Diary does indeed have a watermark at the top, showing build number, etc... I hope they keep it there right through until the gamma at least.

i agree , tho there will (more likly than not) be people who still manage to not see/understand it.
