Taken Alive

As a bounty hunter, I would love to see additional rewards for bringing in criminals alive, perhaps by disabling a certain series of subsystems and scooping up the escape pod as the target attempts to flee. Perhaps the bounty head could try to barter from within your ship, making offers so you will let him go or take him to specific location. Perhaps these attempts at deal making could lead you into a trap if you go along with them.
This system could also be applied to players with criminal careers who want more legitimate criminal gameplay. Swoop in on those wedding barges and snag a few warm bodies for the slave market, for example. I would love to see how you guys might flesh this concept out.
 
This would add to the depth of Elite. Which still suffers from an apparent lack of it. At least in the early game which I'm currently making my way through as a new player. I'm hoping that Elite is just doing a poor job of directing me to the depth of this game.

Bounty hunting should require having to scoop and bring in the escape pod. Assassinations should require destroying the escape pod.

I suppose the way it ought to work, is that some bounty jobs simply require destroying the mark's ship. Sort of how our personal bounties work, where we don't actually die. They will pay their fines when they repurchase their ships.

Other bounties would require bringing in the perp. So once you destroy his ship and he's ejected in his escape pod you need to grab it and bring it in. Perhaps occasionally his buddies try to rescue him before you can get back.

Of course assassinations would require destroying any escape pod (occasionally the guy will die in the ship explosion, but other times you'll need to see if he launched an escape pod and destroy it. Or... you can scoop the escape pod and ransom it to his friends as an alternate way to complete the mission.

Indeed it could add some depth to the game and introduce some new interesting gameplay.

If for example you were to bring back the criminal to it's original faction, you would :
- Earn more money than the bounty (maybe double ?)
- Increase your rep toward that faction
- Decrease your rep toward leading faction

You could also be offered some more money from some of it's ennemies like we got offer for slaves !

Furthermore, blowing up an escape pod, so basically killing, the person who is wanted alive, ought to be considered murder and would result in your receiving a bounty on yourself.
