I took on a task last night to deliver something to another station in another system but got tired and exit-ted the game. Will the mission still be there when I get back to it or will I somehow have defaulted on time?

The time to complete runs in real time so the clock does not stop. providing you have time left then you will be ok, if it runs out then you will fail it.
The time on a mission keeps running even when you log out.
How much time was left on the mission?
If the Mission was time dependant then you may well be out of time and end up with a 'fine' and poor rep.
Gametime continues to run even if your not there.

Ah... the persistent universe thing. It said something about an 1.5 hours on the board, so it looks like I might have persisted off someone and got a bad reputation. Wasn't that far in to the game, so i'll just start again.

You might find you've been given an extra 24 hours to complete the mission, but with a reduced reward.

You need to be careful about this because you can loose a lot of rep with factions through failure to deliver on time. Also any cargo you are carrying for the mission will be marked as stolen and you can get a criminal record of you get scanned.
