Taking a break is healthy

When Multicrew was finally released I found it to be a great disappointment and lost interest in Elite. I decided to take some leave, unsubscribed all newsletters and did not visit the forums and to be honest, I missed nothing.

Now, nine months later, I saw what is planned for Beyond and am intrigued by what is summarized here http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Elite_Dangerous:_Beyond

Not going to sing any praise in advance as it depends on how Frontier implements all the featuers, but I see they are at least aiming for the right targets.

Just this bit of positive feedback to Frontier: What you plan made me return from hiatus and I will participate in the beta - something I usually don't do, working full time makes me consider more carefully what to spend my free time on.

My conclusion from my hiatus: It is just a game, no need to be emotional about it. Don't have fun? Take a break, it works wonders, but I assume a good portion here knows that already. inb4: "hear hear."

Regarding the latest proposed changes, I fear taking a break is the worst we could do at the moment.

I guess it is a good time to return then, but would you be so kind to comment on what your concerns are? I am not up to date (yet).

It seems after much response and reaction on the forum, the T-10 will get its distributor module slot size upgraded from class 6 to 7 post beta, so that could be one example where activity and feedback on the forum did result in some change by FD that was generally positive and wanted by T-10 fans.

And yes some thread themes do seem to keep repeating themselves on a continuous cycle within months, year after year such as the latest lament by another newb player who lost their first major rebuy, or "game is doomed/ SC will be better", etc.

Well then, Kudos for your dedication :).

Honestly, it depends on how much you get out of it for vs time invested. If it becomes more of an annoyance than a rewarding experience, then it is definetly time to step away from the game and I am saying this as someone who spent a lot of money on ED (Premium Beta + HOTAS + table mounts + extension + Vive + OVRDrop to watch shows while flying in VR).

Otherwise things become far too uncivil (and I guess that statement posted here may make quite a few folks laugh already).

Anyways, see you in the beta. I am not suggestion everyone take a break now, I merely stated my experience from my hiatus that already happened and is over now.

There are changes to engineers. Currently it looks as if the old system allows for better SuperMods than the new obe, and players get to keep the old ones. In other words, new players will never be able to catch up, ever.

Others are concerned about 'the grind', but that is false alarm here. A lot changed, and it always takes some time to see the advantages of new things. :)

Anyway, welcome back, have fun and you are correct: as soon as a game stoos being fun its time to move on. :)

I agree that where feedback is being requested it's important that the eventual decision is made based on all the facts & opinions, so providing that feedback (even if it's only to agree with another poster) is important.

However once the decision is made it's also important to accept that sometimes there are several choices & FDev just have to choose a path to move forward, and that path may not have been the one you recommended.

Just thought I would add, taking a break is awesome from time to time - why?

Well I played from beta, played an bit when game went live. Stopped playing for a bit as you, know kinda samey from beta.

year passes or somesuch.

Come back, BLAM go to dock in a station and people are talking to me with callsigns and everything. I had not one but several 'Squeeee!' moments. If you take a break for a while various improvements add up and quite often it's the little QoL enhancements that they throw in make such a big change to you when you come back after an extended time off.

So yeah, take a break now and then kids - it's good for you!

I too am on extended break due to frustrations that I am not going to get into. I have enjoyed my time finishing The Witcher 2 and 3 and currently playing Mad Max. I have the itch to get back in the ol Viper but am waiting for the new patch to go live. I trust you guys to get FD squared away on that one. I am sure I will get more enjoyment upon my return than if I stayed active.

I've been on a break since October-ish.

I burnt out grinding for a Corvette, only to realise I don't like the Corvette. Lol

I was also underwhelmed by the whole aliens thing. They was actually more interesting as a mystery. And I actually spent more time trying to be hyperdicted (before 2.4) than actually fighting them after 2.4.

I log in every now and then, but I don't do much. Last time I simply few my Corvette to where my Anaconda is parked, and swapped in to my Anaconda. Then logged off. Lol

But, I will likely return to Elite Dangerous once part 1 of Beyond is released.
This year is look particularly interesting. :)

All of this makes sense in the sense of taking a break - we all need to take breaks - this is good.

I would however advise against taking seriously the assertion that CMDR_Cosmicspacehead didn't like the Federal Corvette. This person is obviously not well and we are in the process of taking due care of this individual in need - it's purely the finest combat vessel in human space and it looks kinda cool too, so based on this evidence we're taking Mr.Cosmic in for observation, and possible corrective therapy as required.

Yours, as always,

Core Dynamics VP of Public Relations.

I was going to say! Not liking the Corvette is like not liking PIE! Who doesn't like PIE?

That is just the experience I had with Beta 3.0. I have yet to try the "hot" features people are arguing about, but the text-to-speech GalNET, the new selectable computer voice, planet surface graphics etc. left me with a very good impression. Tried a Wing Mission with a buddy and it worked.
