Taking a break to play Xcom 2

Well I finished Xcom 2 on Veteran. Took almost 50 hours and was a nice diversion. Overall I was happy with the changes and enjoyed it but I was disappointed that it really is just a reboot of the first Xcom.

The game was tough. I warn you now this is one of the hardest games you will play - that is a good and bad thing.

Good as it felt like a real challenge and tension ran high throughout. Bad as I really don't want to replay it again. The first Xcom I ran through 5 times. This goes back on the shelf.

Funnily enough first thing I did after finishing was fire up ED and head out into the void! :)

Yeah just finished my playthrough. I used a PI-based team initially.

Survivors were Jeff and Corwin Ryan and Balfuset from the Angels. The 13th's second in Command survived until the last mission but died under heavy attack literally surrounded by a wall of bodies (god bless his free sword attack). He was taken down after three ranged attacks (he had one health left) the first missed because he was untouchable, the second was an honest to goodness miss. The third, well... it was a heroes death. Alcubierre and Vickershaft were on my roster until the last four or five missions. Nightshady died early on trying to haul Andariel back to the ship after he was bleeding out. As for Kevin Massey... well... I'm sure he'll do better next playthrough.

Just finished my first playthrough on commander/ironman this weekend and had a blast. Took me a couple of restarts to learn where to put my priorities. However the late game felt a bit disappointingly easy and rushed.

Five missions into my first legend/ironman game the pacing feels a lot better. The early game didn't feel too bad on CMDR either, so I guess mods will be a necessity to provide longevity.

For seasoned long war/impossible/ironman players I'd recommend starting out in legend ironman though.
