Taking heat damage ...

It's so hot in the UK today that trying to run my pc is unfeasible. It'll stay up but the additional heat it generates makes my small pc room horrific. I wish I owned some air-con. Anyone else afflicted?

Have you tried installing heat sinks in your flat? Or does it not have enough utility slots? :D

72F and rainy where I'm at right now, so I can't complain too loudly.

I use a heat sink when it gets really bad: a big pan of cold water you can stick your feet into. It brings the temperature right down. Add a fan and you're golden.

My aged central air system finally died about three weeks back, and I had to go without air conditioning for about ten days before I could get someone in here to install a new one. Hence I was barely willing to turn my computers on for those ten days, in an effort to avoid superheating my house. (And I didn't even have silent running enabled.)

Anyway, my own return to ED this last weekend was largely precipitated by the installation of a new air conditioning system, so although I have little or no advice for you, I can certainly empathize.
