Fellow explorers!
I would like to present to you a series of rather short trips around the Bubble. They are intended for and especially dedicated to those who are new to the trade of exploration and like to ‘get into it’ without going out for thousands of light years right away. The explorers community always welcomes new 'space material' and this one is for you.
These trips are designed as circuits within some 500 or 600 light years of Sol. Depending on the eagerness and level of detail desired they can last a day or be upped to a week or more. There are many splendid things to see and you don’t have to go the extra mile to see a black hole or other exotic stuff. You also won’t need a modded or super expensive ship for this as the stellar density poses no problems whatsoever. An exploration-fitted Hauler, Adder or Cobra will do. Hell, even with a Sidewinder and a B or A FSD you’ll be good. Just don’t forget a good fuel scoop
I wrote these trips in episodes, loosely connected with a background story to make things a bit more immersive. It’s all about the wonders of the galaxy. At the bottom of each episode the interested explorer will find a ‘Trip Advisory’ with famous or cool places that are recommended to visit. Like I said, these trips can be extended in scope almost indefinitely. Where appropriate, I also added some bits of lore and myth as many things around Sol have to do with ancient constellations and epic heroes forever set into the sky.
I would like to start with the ‘Giant Strides’.
It's a route from the Core Systems towards some of the most well-known star clusters, constellation stars and beyond. The route got its name from the number of giant stars along the itinerary. It will lead us from the Watcher of the East to the Demon Star, the Daughters of Atlas and the Three Gorgons, and finally to the Queen of Aethiopia. And it starts at the base of an overworked engineer who needs a break
