Taking hull and module damage while shields are still up

So three times last night I was space trucking in my type 9 and I get interdicted. I submit and jump out after the fsd cool down. I'm getting shot the whole time by the npc but my shields never drop. When I get back to dock I have a 20k repair bill for hull and modules. I'm running a 5D shield generator and 4 class A boosters. I've also noticed when my shield status shows the middle ring going purple I get the warning alarm and my displays start to go red and distorted like I'm taking damage. Any one else notice this or similar? It doesn't seem like I should have been taking damage when my shields were up or am I missing a game mechanic. I haven't been playing long so that's entirety possible and why I'm asking. I don't remember this behavior when I was in my python last week.

You haven't been playing long, but you were not aware that being pulled out of supercruise in your T9 (!) does damage to it because you don't remember it happening in your Python last week?

I call shenanigans!

Welcome to the submission not working fun.

I was never able to get a clean interdiction submission in my T9. If you see FSD Failure (i think that's what it shows) in the submitting text, then you failed to submit and will take damage.

Sometimes 1 or 2 percent but I've had it go as high as 10%--UGH.

That means module damage usually across the board and ship integrity damage that you can only see from the repair menu once docked.

Before 1.3 i just chocked it up do cost of doing business as it was high but only a percentage of my current run. 1.3 hit and I got rid of my T9 as it was then more than my run and happened nearly every run. The damage costs seem to still be in flux so I'll not be returning to my T9 or even thinking about an Anaconda. It's a PITA in my Python to the point i'm about to trade it in on a sidewinder :(

Good luck, CMDR.

OK go ahead. I've been playing just before wings came out, that's not long in my book.
I know when you fight an interdiction and loose you take damage, but I submit and my hull still shows 100 percent after I drop and hit the boost.
Yes I went from sidewinder to viper, which I still have, to type 6, traded it for a type 7, traded it to a python, and traded python to type 9. I had an eagle for a bit too just for fun. I also played with the diamondback explorer too but sold it to get the class A fsd for my type 9. And I had the t7 for just over a week, maybe two and the python for about 4 or 5 days. Yes it's a new shiny game that I play more than I should and have racked up bit of an excessive amount of time in game for the short time I've had it. If I play my cards right I could have an anaconda this some time late weekend! I have a nice trade location that consist of 3 systems that nets me 1.2 to 1.5 million per round trip between my choice of any 4 routes between the central system and the other 2. 5 routes if I go back to being able to land on outpost. And I can make each route is 2 jumps from my core system base. I can switch commodity and stations as one starts paying less that 1mil per circuit and be back above 1.2mil or better. I can run 5 circuits per hour easy if it goes smothly without the interdictions.

I have been out in the black for a few weeks but returned a couple of days ago. I un-mothballed my Python and took it out to hunt a couple of NPCs. I was very surprised to dock afterwards and find myself with a repair bill, as I had not interdicted anyone and had not lost more than a ring of shields.

I wasn't sure if something had changed behind the scenes but it did confuse me momentarily. I'm not sure if it's related to the OP's situation or not.

The other possible way of taking damage while your shields are still up is through excessive heat.

Tell me, is your T9 studded with many many beam laser turrets? And were they firing? You gain quite a lot of heat during the FSD charging sequence on top of everything else.

None, no weapons just shield boosters, and my heat doesn't get above 80, I know I have to keep it below 65 to charge fsd with no heat issues.

I find it odd because if I think about it if the second ring in the shield status display is going purple, the inner ring is still bright blue wouldn't that be about where my shields would have collapsed if I didn't have the boosters on? I am an Ole redneck and my figuring may be off but anyway...

I though it might be showing I had shields up but letting module and hull damage through like they werent as my hud would be distorting, glitching, and turning red like it was, as well as the shield alarm going off.

Pulling someone out of SC, or being pulled / uncontrolled SC exit results in damage.

Even if you submit?

There shouldn't be any damage if:

(a) you're interdicted and you submit to it quickly enough
(b) you're going under 1000 Mm/s (safe disengage max speed), whether interdicting or being interdicted.

Yeah, that is weird. I've had my HUD distort and glitch when only taking shield damage (I think it's just the shields overloading feeding back), so it's not that. It might be a bug then. What is strange is your shield alarm going off. For me that doesn't happen until my shield is literally about to collapse completely. I guess it's possible that there was lag and your shield went down during the 4, 3, 2, 1 countdown and you couldn't see it. But that is weird.

I've watched my hull drop to 99% while taking fire, (sparks, flames, and smoke fillign the cabin) when I still have 1 ring on my shields left. Nowhere near 100% heat.

Have seen this also since the latest patch, modules & hull receiving damage even when shield haven't collapsed.

Ive noticed giving damage to NPC ships while their shields were up - So I imagine a small amount of damages does get through depending on shield strength and the amount of firepower/force being applied to the shields.

I'm glad that on this forum there's someone to be really smug about actual gameplay issues and bugs. Really makes me interested in contributing.
