Taking out an anaconda with a smaller ship - tips?

Right, what's the best way to take out a conda without getting destroyed? Does it have blind spots, are there any systems to target, if so which ones and where are they on the vessel?

Cheers,

JAD.

On the subsytem thing: There are binds in controls that let you cycle through subsystems. You will then get a small box in addition to your normal lock reticule. Fire shots that hit in that box and you hit, and do damage to the subsystem, if the shields are down of course.. There is also a subsystem tab on your left side UI panel if you prefer that over binds.

The only complete blind spot is directly behind the vessel. The front is usually most dangerous, then the bottom, then the sides, then the top, then the rear. I generally try to stay behind it or above it.

The power plant is relatively easy to hit and targeting it will usually result in the ship popping at 50% hull or so. Just cycle through subtargets to see where everything is.

I tend to target it's power plant; if that hits 0% he'll blow up. Also shield banks and chaff help to avoid and take some more damage before you have to flee.

My strategy

Dart in, let it shoot me, pull out of range, wait for ISS to turn up. Then help ISS take it's shields down, target the power unit, and keep going, popping shield cell bank charges as needed till it's dead.

I was rather ecstatic to find that now anacondas can no longer FSD away with 0% drives... so let that be the first tip. it was a lesson in patience, but I eventually claimed a 45k bounty in a freagle (small weapons do hardly any damage to a large hull), but by keeping away from its tumbling nose, and just beyond its turreted multicannons, I eventually plinked away its reactor.

a cobra (or viper with grade A power dist to be comparable) can literally pound an anaconda to debris with medium cannons (burst lasers for shield stripping). call that tip 2

then there is always rocket spam, or even torpedo commitment. so tip # 3.

tips 4-47 i'm keeping to myself. ;)

Right lads, I'm going big game hunting.

Got my cobra pimped up to the maximum with A3 power dist, gimballed beam lasers and fixed cannons. Shield cells and chaff launcher for defence.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Keep out of it's primary line of fire.
Scan him and know which weapons he has before moving in for the attack.

I can't stay behind them. Back to piloting school (I'm not complaining - it's good that it's possible but takes skill to do).

Try using plenty of lateral and vertical thrust... You can boost while using the thrusters and this increase in speed will affect those movements as well.

I usuall get in a mess trying to do that and thrust in the wrong direction. I'll have a play around with the mapping, might be a better use for the joystick hat than controlling headlook.

Its impossible to stay behind them 100% of the time. I have battled a few in my sidewinder. My experience is to target FSD first to prevent it from fleeing. The ship usually explodes when the FSD is at 0. In. Sidey its a very tough battle. When I can handle that, doing it with any other ships is a walk in the park :)

Mission accomplished!

Used the rather cheeky method of waiting for the cops to arrive and taking out his power drive, next time I'll try something a bit more manly.

Hahaha I don't consider you a wuss I consider that as smart

I can agree, I had to kill an Elite Anaconda for an assassination mission in my Cobra, and I was used to never fighting ships larger than a Federal Dropship. Basically, Pythons and Anacondas were no goes. Then, when I realized I would get 200,000 CR from killing this guy, I opened up. The hardest part is the shield, which I withered away using 2 C1 Pulse lasers. While doing this, I basically held F (vertical downward thrust) and threw out chaff after chaff until his shield was down, and then opened up my 2 C2 Gimballed Multicannons. I didn't use shield cells, and I had full power to weapons, as per usual for me :p. I got away with 70% Hull. Only thing you need to worry about when in my position is to not get your canopy blown to smithereens - that is, unless you have that 25 minute O2 tank. Have fun, and fly safe!

Absolutely brilliant fun. There's something just great about the big game hunting.

Tips were very useful, you're right about the shields being tough to take off. And some parts of the ship are definitely more dangerous than others!!

(Repping the most useful tips!)
