Taking questions/suggestions which will hopefully be answered by a dev

I am going to forward any suggestions or issues I have with using DK2 in ED and would like to invite everyone to also submit anything relevant so that I can hopefully get some feedback for us all here in the VR section.

Personally I would like to find out the reason why I have been suffering increased chromatic aberration since 1.1 when 1.0 was working without it before.
I would also like to get an update on direct mode and some improvements in the galaxy map when used with VR and the IPD issue (whether we need to manually input the IPD or is it read direct from the DK2)

Hopefully if this works it can give us a way to be in contact with future ED/VR development.
Ill send the request in a week from today..

You live in a dream world if you think devs have looked in this area in the past months :)

VR is dead for Frontier

I want to know if ED is using the latest Oculus SDK, and if not when will it be ?
Does it/will it support 3D positional audio too ?
Will there be UI added for setting display colour in the game ?
Will the 'improved galaxy map' in 1.2 have Rift specific fixes (like, data panels you can actually read, stars you an actually select, etc)
Why does the pilot's body look like its too small (this seems to be a regression in 1.1 - I fixed it in 1.0 by setting my height to 1.5m in the Oculus control panel). Is this just a perception/VR problem, or is there a software fix for it ?
Are there performance tweaks waiting to be implemented that will improve the framerate for Rift users ? (ED seems quite light on the graphics card of most users, but Rift users really push it, so I hope there's an optimisation pass or two that can still be done for us). What about some kind of adaptive quality setting that prioritises frame rate, and then adds in high quality graphics if theres enough spare GPU ?

To be less of a smartass I'll repeat what I said to Pixelpowder via DM - I like answering things offhand where I can, but if you get together a list of questions that includes technical details I don't know, or where the answers would risk breaking NDAs or predicting feature development (which amounts to me breaking an NDA anyway), you're best sending them via Edward Lewis, so they can be properly picked apart.

hmmmm
theres not much point in anything DK2 specific, the CV1 will be out later this year, i dont see much point in pushing the development of DK2 for ED as soon it will be as obsolete as the DK1, however, some general oculus things could be implemented

a scale slider would be nice
HUD colour change without it altering everything else
galaxy map needs to work ha

no doubt there will be more to follow hahaa

Don't you have a bridge to guard? ROFL

And on topic, FD updated the graphics config files in 1.1 to preserve custom HUD colours (bless 'em) so updates don't wipe out our colour schemes, which has been something requested by Oculus users.

I'd like to know if a virtual keypad is something we could have in the galaxy map? It's a bit of a trial in DK2 right now. You either keyboard-peep, or put common system names in voice attack - neither ideal.

Or learn / practice to touch type? Thats what the bumps are there for on F and J (sometimes also D and K), to orient yourself without looking. But perhaps a bit of a tall order if you don't have a need for it otherwise.

Anyone tried to put the alphabet and numbers into voice attack and then spell out names. Or isn't the voice recognition engine up to it, as in too many misinterpretations?
Phonetic alphabet and numbers might do it.

Ben Id like to know why you guys arent pitching this game as the goto VR experience? I mean there's almost no competition at the moment, over 100 000 DK2s sold, a CV1 coming out "soon" and Frontier aren't exactly rolling in cash. star Citizen have temporarily (or indefinitely) put VR on hold and EVE hasn't released a demo yet.

Surely now is the time to partner up with Oculus and get this game the attention it deserves.

They are pitching as VR experience as far as I know, I am sure they got quite healthy sales numbers just because of that. And still there's people discovering ED and VR just now.

I know they demo using VR alongside 4k screens, but there must be a way for Frontier push the VR angle more... It's just too good not to!

You can pick up my issues here. Number 2 is fixed already. Saves me bug reporting them! ;)

I can more or less touch type, but my gaming keyboard doesn't have the bumps and with the rift on, letting go of the throttle and stick to find the keyboard is a task in itself.

Put a piece of tape on the F and J keys while playing with the Rift, maybe that way you can use your blind-typing skills (wish I had those...) while rifting?

Ok you read, however so far dev/support participation in the forum is near to zero (for reasons I can not understand as this is fun for developers and healthy for the company and game)

Why did you stop developing for VR in Elite ?
I came to the impression that the VR developer/staff was drawn from that area, possibly moved to a more financial rewarding area (like the anounced paid extensions).
Since mid beta the VR changelogs are almost not existant, the last I can remember was removing some glitter from asteroids (in a changelist of hundreds of lines the only VR related change).

Is there anything we can expect to come for VR anytime soon ?

This is the most important and EASY thing they could do RE: the rift. Please get an answer to this question!!!

Can they please please implement an FOV toggle (not even a scale slider, just a simple toggle) while using the rift so we can zoom in temporarily?

This EASY fix solves the 2 most important problems:

1) we will be able to read the text of the menus in the maps without having to get off our chair and lean all the way to the left. Not being able to read them easily is such a significant problem.
2) we can enjoy the graphics more while in the rift as we'd be able to zoom in on the things that are pixellated, like semi-distant planets, ships etc.

If they did this, then the rift experience would be perfect :)

If they want to keep it "lore-friendly", it could be that we have to buy some "goggles" in the game that allow this to work? I don't know but I'm sure it's very very easy to implement.

I'm starting to sound desperate so one more time before everyone starts awkwardly ignoring me - PLEASE ASK THE DEVS ABOUT THIS!

My big question is can we get an option to change the colors of the galaxy map again? The white is horrible in the rift, the green was perfect for reading it.

This is the main problem for me right now. It's pretty tough to read the Galaxy map text after the latest patch.
