Hi Commanders,
I just wanted to share my harrowing tale of the maiden voyage of my large science vessel. A mix of stupidity, over confidence and the resulting death of my 3% from elite fighter pilot Zachery Hamilton.
I have been poorly and off work for 5 weeks a chest infection, its been rough, but has allowed me to have a lot of time playing elite. I have loved the time. Anyway it allowed me to get enough funds to buy an Anaconda and fit it for science, I gave this a lot of thought. This is the first issue.
I thought about what I wanted on the ship, I wanted it to be all about exploring, I thought I wanted a ship that would be able to deal with any and all possible encounters a great explorer might find themselves in.. So I will list some of the stuff I put on it,
Advanced discovery, Planetary Scanner - System exploration.
SRV and fighter for reconnaissance
Cargo Scanner, Warrant Scanner and Wake Scanner.. First contact (what if I saw a Thargoid I thought it might be good to get info
)
Auto repair, Fuel scoop - Long distance
Prospector drone control, Mining lasers, Refinery and Limpets - Help maintain repairs and potentially find materials that would assist jump range and such..
I armed the ship also, with the thought of defence, so Cannons and missiles just to quickly dispatch pirates or deter any threats.
I was proud of my science vessel and knew it had a few issues which I hoped the engineers would sort out
So first thing is first, I set out from dock and headed for my first upgrade (FSD) I headed out to see Felicity on the way I knew there would be systems ready for me to discover and test out some of this equipment. So my first mistake was to stop and take my time on route.
After a few systems on my travel of scanning, I was of course eventually interdicted by a pirate. I was going to run, but then decided lets take this on... I powered up my weapons, and that's when it all went wrong. *Face Palm* Shields immediately go offline, in fact mostly everything goes off line, thrusters included. I don't panic, even though by this time my hull is taking a pounding, I start ditching systems desperately but methodically getting the systems online that I need to escape.
At 4% Hull, I escape - PHEW! that was close, I am feeling stupid but lucky to escape. At that point, I think oh I have Repair systems, I should repair my 5% engines, and ensure I can get to a space port get them sorted. So I activate the module to repair my engines, and immediately drop out of supercruise... Second Face palm. Of course, about 10 seconds of that happening I have really unfriendly company on radar. I send out Zachery to try and buy time, but it was all just too much stupidity.....
BOOM, Lost my pilot, lost my cargo (engineer parts) and of course 23,000,000 Insurance and all the other good stuff that punishes really dumb pilots like me.
Absolutely a deserved and really painful death... The rage was real and also so many lessons learned that I should have learned at harmless. Its absolutely shameful that I did so many mistakes in such a short time.
Zach didn't deserve to die that way, RIP. Right now I feel the pilots of Red Dwarf would have done a better job!
