I have just installed 'Voice Attack' and join the commanders who speak commands to their ship. I have to say it's really good. The ease of now just coming into land and saying "Gear" to deploy the landing gear. When Incursions happen in deep space, saying "Combat Mode" and hearing the computer speak back to you with "Confirmed Deploying Hard points and raising shields", adds more realism for me.

I really recomend getting this small app.. its awesome.

Everything that has a keyboard short cut, or even if you need to move the mouse somewhere and click something, you can program Voice Attack to do it all for you, and then assign it to a command.

Here is an example of what an ED player has done with Voice Attack, and bare in mind that you can download voices for your computer, and by doing that, they will become available to Voice Attack to speak confirmations back to you.

I am worried as to how this is going to interact with voice comms (when they add it) Don't want to get reliant on this and then find I can't speak to people effectively.

I'm actually eager to see text comms and figure out how to utilize Voice Attack along with speech to text, to somehow try and have hands free communication. I've got a crude test thing up, but not knowing how comms will work, it's hard to go any further.

As for Voice Attack interfering with voice comms, there's ways to set things up so that when you choose to talk to friends, VA ignores you, and then comes back online when you need it. There's always room for fine tuning of course, and it's one reason why I try to use short phrases or specific keywords for quick responses, so I avoid confusing VA with common words.

That simple enough to cure, make a voice command that opens the ED voice communication system and seemlessly also stops Voice Attack reacting to further commands. So a command like " Open Communications " will open the comms screen in the game, but also disable Voice Attack within the same command. Then when you are finished with the comms in the game, you can say something like "Computer" Which re-enables Voice Attack for future commands again.

So for example ,

Launch from space dock, say "Gear", head out into space , your comms alert you to a communication, you say " open Communication ", you speak in real time to your friend, the communication ends, and you say "computer" to which you hear a beep, you then say " Engage Hyperdrive " and you enter hyperspace...

That is all possible with Voice Attack.
