Tansferring ships to Jaques?

Hello,
Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere. Is Frontier going to allow players to transfer ships to non-contiguous areas of the bubble? Meaning Jaques, etc...

The notion that a player could use a long-legged Asp to get to Jaques and then simply order up their FDL and start slagging explorers for sport feels... not-great. Even with a delay.

I'm not opposed to the "Dangerous" aspect of Elite by any stretch (these days I play in open almost exclusively)... I just think that if you wanna go to Jaques with a murder-boat and do some sport shooting you should have to put in the work.

Also if this has already been addressed would someone direct me to the conversation?
I did a search but was kind of overwhelmed by the sheer amount or threads it turned up with subject lines that really didn't seem to fit what I was looking for.

Thanks

I think the transfer costs is an unknown variable at this Point - especially over this huge distance.

This is how I plan to use the new feature. I am not going to attempt the actual trip in my Asp until the new plotting features are added so I can avoid the Brown Dwarf Deserts.

Cost is supposed to be reasonable within the bubble (they don't want cost to be a barrier to use of the feature). To Jaques though is a whole different order of magnitude, cost should be huge imo.

That isn't even a problem, it doesn't matter at all or have any effect. There is already multiple commanders with fdls and federal corvettes who have done it in fully armed and combat ready ships. The distance doesn't limit anyone who want to do it from doing it, because they have already done that. Jaques isn't any safer system or station than any other cg or popular system.

I want to move ships there, and I plan to do it all manually.

Thinking of making a live stream event out of it.

Not sure. However, based on the examples given it will be about 3LY/minute. So with 22000 LY to go that would mean well over a hundred hours, plus the fee. Based on the gamescom prices that would currently be 300m for a beluga, one-way ticket. Getting a corvette to jacques and back would then be approximately a billion credits and 250 hours of waiting. I am sure these numbers will be reduced a bit, and maybe there will be a max limit in distance (not in favor of that myself, there is no reason for capping it).

Hey, you know I love you but do you mind if I skip that one? :p

Tis a niche idea. Don't blame you. XD

Murphy's law says it'll happen because it can. And it'll be a whole different level compared to the odd guy who decided to do it in their FDL once. 50+LY ships will be headed out there within seconds of the update and within a couple weeks there will be fully kitted Anacondas and Corvettes out there.

If I was that sort of player, I'd have my second account prepared and ready to go long before the update hits. No impact at all with the timer (second account), just the cost. And to think one of the main reasons people clamoured for the delay was to avoid this scenario. It'll be glorious when it hits the forums ;)

Personally I find it a very weak argument. People can already move their warships there, and manually flying your ship is faster than ship transfer. Personally I'd prefer to focus on how to deal when confronted with a player-killer, rather than worry about how that player-killer happened to be there. And because I did that, I no longer have to worry about them at all. I suggest others do the same. :)

We'll just have to see, won't we? :) Obviously, if you're in solo/group, it won't matter to you.

Then you wont mind if I show up in a PvP ASP and start killing explorers for sport? Good to know

This is how I plan to use the new feature. I am not going to attempt the actual trip in my Asp until the new plotting features are added so I can avoid the Brown Dwarf Deserts.

I have not experienced Brown Dwarf Deserts, and I have done the journey to Jaques twice.

I hope the feature is disabled for distances longer than 1k LY

And this is the primary reason I was in favor of instant ship transfer. Any time some people are given an inch, they try to take a mile.

If you want to be the only person at Jacques then just play in solo mode and stop trying to ruin the game for others.

You really don't need to worry about the brown dwarf fields. If you hit more than three in succession, have a quick look at the galaxy map and if you're in the middle of a field of them just go up or down about 100LY, you'll clear it. Having said that I've been out there twice and the return leg of the first journey plus both legs of the second journey were pretty much a direct path from the bubble. I can only remember running into one patch of them and that was very close to the bubble.

If you want an interesting journey, when you're about 8,000 LY out from Jaques, drop down to just below the level of his system. You can fly from there to his station through nothing but neutron stars, white dwarves and black holes if you want, only visiting a main sequence system to refuel.

Well, according to the poll resuts it seems that it is n fact the instant crew who are "ruining the game for others".

Lori is as entitled to his/her opinion as you are to yours.

Well here's one way of looking at it: if a greifer decides they want to spend days or weeks getting a combat ship to Jacques, that's days or weeks that they're leaving the whole galaxy alone. In the meantime, some well-meaning explorers with a bit of foresight might have already ordered over a combat ship of their own, so it could be in transit while they were exploring and sitting there waiting for them when they came back to turn in the data.
