Target locking, target locked and missile inbound warnings

As far as I can tell, we got a warning only when a foe has shot a missile already.

What about a warning that tells the pilot that a foe is locking on your ship with seakers, as per nowadays tech?

The only thing we can do now is try to avoid missiles when they are already airborne.

What do you cmdrs think about it?

Missile lock as per nowadays tech relies on detecting an active radar signal. Elite ships don't have an active signal and only detect passively as far as I am aware.

so my issue is that, due to the existence of active and passive guidance systems on missiles, both of which are determined by the missile itself being picked up, not the craft locking on to. So because our sensors are heat based, someone could still in theory go silent running and launch the missiles off without being detected because its not the ship itself being picked up, it's the missile. In real life, you don't get a radar warning when your stealth aircraft has been cross-indexed, you get a radar warning because there is Semi-Active or Active Radar Guided Missiles on your six, and same deal with heat-seeking. So in real life your only choices are to dodge, pray, or use countermeasures in a way that would fool the guidance systems of the missiles, not where the missiles originated from.

I like the idea. Immersion etc.

Like all ship chats, they can be disabled individually for those that are going to jump through convoluted hoops to prove why this is a terrible idea.

In general I would like to see the game use more ECM-ECCM options, like spoofing my radar signature or dropping IR residual radiation, stuff like that. As you can fool sensors to even the most basic laser guided munition.

I made a suggestion I while back about the same thing. But I can't find it. Lol

(I make far too many suggestions!)

It would be good if we could see which ships have us targeted, which ships are trying for a missile lock, and which ships have one.
Or at the very least, a low beep when something targets you, a repeating beep when they're attempting to lock on, and a solid tone for a solid lock.

Many simulator games will tell you when something is tracking you, and when a missile has been released. Of course, this is based on real life, and tech in elite is based on.... ummm... something else. :p
