target specific modules?

I think I've read somewhere that it is possible to attack particular parts of an opponents ship, e.g. concentrate fire power on the engines. Is this possible, and how do you do it? Do you just have to get in close and be a good shot?

You have to use your keys to target next and previous subsystem. Check your key bindings.

Gimbals and turrets will do that, yes. And you get a little targeting box as well, so you know where to aim your fixed weapons.
