Newcomer / Intro Targting certain areas of ships...

I've seen a lot on here about targeting specific parts of ships. So my question is..how? Are all ships modular? ( Been playing for months and never realised that you could target specific modules on ships! )

I think it is in the left UI panel.

Tab all the way to the right and make your choice of module; I think. never tried it myself, too busy trying to just blast the hell out of the target.

You don´t need it against small ships, but if you aim at the reactor of an anaconda you kann kill her much faster. It doesn´t matter how many % of the hull are left, when the reactor reaches 0% it´s game over for the big boy ;)

The default key for cycling through targetted systems is 'Y'.

This is much easier than trying to use the UI panel in the heat of battle.
I find it far faster to use the UI panel to target the powerplant on an anaconda. (In a vulture there is no need to target subsystems on anything smaller ;) )

I have a button mapped on my joystick to cycle throught the systems. The best one to aim for is the powerplant on larger ships. On smaller ships you tend to have to destroy them as they usually blow up before you can take out any systems. Also if you are playing as a pirate target the cargo hatch to make ships "lose" their cargo. Other stuff worth taking out are Thrusters as it leaves ships sitting unable to move. Finally if you use gimballed weapons you will probably find it easier to target the specific systems than with fixed weapons.

In a RES, just go for the PP. If it is a tough Assassination mission, go for the Engines instead (or is it labeled Thrusters, I can never remember), anyway, they go down a LOT quicker than the PP, and it leaves them tumbling in space. The proverbial sitting duck. Just dont be an idiot and fly in front of their fixed PA, they will still shoot what they can.

1. Buy Fer de Lance.
2. Equip huge cannon.
3. Take down shields with 4x class 2 pulse lasers.
4. Target power plant.
5. Take it out in three shots.
6. Profit.
