Tarsiers and other small mammals. Eligible as habitat animals?

Reviving this to see what people think about flying squirrels. I'm thinking about perhaps allowing these in the meta-wishlist.

Would they be feasible within the current habitat setting?
Would they mandatorily be housed in an aviary-type enclosure or big terrarium?
Sigh If only Frontiers shed just a gleam of hope for terrarium mammals.....

I think mouse-rat sized animals could have a choice as habitat animals if Frontier would implement small foliage/enrichment/fences for them. Small mammals are very active (i.e. mice, squirrels or tarsiers) and need better animations than the current terrarium animals ones offer.
It would be nice to see squirrels, tarsiers, loris, bushbabies and ground small mammals todo with adapted burrows as mice, hámsters or ground squirrels.

I think small mammals would make great exhibit animals! Naked Mole Rats, Bushbabies, Tarsiers, Common Vampire Bats. Of course, all of these would need better animations than we currently have, and might benefit from scaleable exhibit boxes BUT I think if Frontier can pull that off, I don’t know why we couldn’t see animals like this make an appearance in exhibit boxes!

There’s nothing technically difficult involved and no question that it’d be possible to do - it’d just be a series of looped animations. The question is whether Frontier think it’s worth the effort and / or is compatible with their vision for the game. Most would not even need differently sized exhibits - the current size (16 square meters) would be much more appropriate for small mammals than it is for most of the current exhibit animals (for example, my local zoo has giant cockroaches in an (approximately) 30cm x 20cm terraria.

Imo most if not all small mammals larger then mice work better as habitat animals.
The reasoning is simple, exhibits suck and small mammals are only very rarely in terrariums like our exhibits in game.
Also creative freedom + the fact that all exhibit animals are more or less dead meat when it comes to planet zoo as a building game.
Exhibits best use is to cheese money and are very underwhelming building pieces at best.
Until they get updated substancially no animal that could work outside of an exhibit should be in an exhibit. #FreeTheIguanas

Disagree. Many zoos keep small mammals in terraria the size of the exhibits in-game, they’re actually much better sized for small mammals than they are for almost any of the animals they have now (the exception being iguanas, for which they’re about right).

Most of the issues you raise with exhibits could be solved by just being able to make the glass walls invisible - other issuers like too-rapid breeding and death could also be easily solved. I’d much rather the iguanas stayed in exhibits - better that than having ridiculous space requirements like the dwarf caiman or Nile monitor…. #keeptheiguansinboxes

I respect the cpunter #, but even if they make the size ajustable and the glass optionally invisible, its still creative death for the possibility with the animal.
Every exhibit animal is being hold back simply by being an exhibit, so if an animal like the iguana can easily work as an habitat animal, they should be freed from those shackles.
Personally im a big fan of having animals that are both exhibit and habitat animals, even if its just to get actually usable iguanas.

I'm also on team #FreeTheIguanas

While I agree that the exhibit box is a decent size for them, and I also wouldn't mind the option to still be able to keep them in a box.

But not having them as habitat animals take some of the fun away from making tropical halls and similar.

While I have seen iguanas in exhibit like terrariums most I have seen have either been in halls or in mixed species "exhibits" with animals such as monkeys. Therefore they are common to see in oversized areas. Though the juveniles would be preferred in exhibits. But that goes for most habitat animals' juveniles actually.

I think tarsiers are most definitely small enough to work as exhibit animals, as are some other exceptionally small primates such as pygmy marmosets, mouse lemurs, and bushbabies. I'm unsure about lorises, I think having more than one would be a little cramped. I feel the same way about smaller new world monkeys, they could work but it would be a tight fit barring pygmy marmosets that I mentioned before.

As for other mammals, there is quite a lot of small species I think would be perfect to just be exhibit animals - here are some ideas:
  • Tenrecs
  • Shrews (maybe a bit too small, and not really common in zoos)
  • Elephant Shrews/Sengis
  • Rodents of many kinds (mice, hamsters, jerboas, and the like... Squirrels and such may be too large)

honestly I would take small mammals, but not for habitats. I would greatly prefer to have bigger exhibits.
As we have begun to focus on potential for a nocturnal theme, I believe that would be a great time to add small mammal exhibits. In particular, nocturnal small mammals.
I would be down for tarsiers, loris, skunks, possum and any other animal that would not be suited for a habitat.
On that note I’d like another small exhibit type that would be more suitable for mammals such as kangaroo shrews, voles, hedgehogs, stoats etc

I am a BIG fan of this. Rodinets, Fish, and even small birds.
