Tasmanian Devil Profile

I suppose it’s still very possible we could get one eventually. After all we did receive the giant otter which just as well could have been part of the South America pack. From my understanding these guys at least here in the us are extremely rare with only six zoos caring for them. I have no clue how common they are in zoos in other parts of the world tho. I’m kinda in between with this one I would be more then happy with them on the roster but could’ve been just as happy with a emu or wombat.

Our zoo Prague has them, so it is entirely possible that zoos outside Oceania can keep them. I too was a bit dissapointed we did not get them in Australia pack, hope we will see them at some point.

In Europe there are very few zoos that have them too, less than giant pandas.

I think Frontier didn't add it to the Australia pack either because of its small size (they seem to prioritize large animals, even if the devils are big enough) or because they saved it for a future pack (endangered species, small critters, nocturnal animals, around the world...). Fingers crossed for the last option 🙏

Australia isn't complete without them, without wombats, emus, frilled-neck lizards, echidnas, red-necked wallabies or platypus, I can name many more, but these are some of the more prioritised.

Based on a quick search and my own knowledge there are six zoos in the USA, six in Europe, three in New Zealand and at least one in Japan.

And of course significant numbers in Australia itself.

I still don’t get why they thought it was better to include the dingo than this.
While I would've also preferred the Tasmanian devil, I guess the argument could be diversity. The Australia pack already has two marsupials, so it may make more sense to add a carnivore. But here we are with another animal that's really cute, but also not that different from earlier canids.

I think the Tasmanian devil has a much more compelling conservation narrative and given that it is a pack focussed on Australia I would much rather have another marsupial.

The pack doesn’t enhance the game’s diversity overall as, as you say, we already have a number of canids.

Tasmanian Devils are the largest carnivorous marsupials in the world, since the extinction of the Thylacine, not related to canids in any-way. Their head seems disproportionate to the body and that carries those mighty jaws, they have the strongest bite to body size ratio of any mammal in the world. They are endangered and going on with some strong conservation efforts from 80% of all the zoos in Australia.
