Taxi Service

Would it be possible that if travelling to a far off Station, such as the one near the core and we are docked there, we could as well as having our ships delivered to us catch the equivalent of a taxi back to our other ships. Pricing and time taken I'll leave that in your capable hands. It would enable us to go and check out stuff that may be happening in other parts of the galaxy that we have ships parked up at.

Thanks

Dub

I also thought about 'traveling as a passenger'. There are several problems with this, your target could have no ships owned by you, and this would mean you either have to buy a ship or you get one 'loaned', a Sidewinder. The problem is, that a CMDR cannot exist without his ship, from the game mechanics.

I could be useful to have such a service, but it would be very expensive, I think. Essentially you are hiring another CMDR for a passenger service, and you know what this costs.

So - yes, but only if you either own ships at your destination, or if you buy a ship. A ship loan should not happen in this case. Also there should be a waiting time, where you cannot use the game since your CMDR is in transit. I don't know if this can be done.

The question is, is it really helpful?

I think this is the big problem. It certainly *could* be done - but it's one thing to have to wait a couple of days for another ship to arrive, while you wander around doing other stuff in the ship you already have - and quite another not to be able to play the game at all (or only CQC and Multicrew sessions, perhaps)

I can't think of any examples of games which say "you can't login for the next three days" as anything other than an out-of-game punishment for cheating, etc.

The only going to where you have a ship is fine, its the point of being able to do it.
It may not take a couple of days to make the journey, 24 hours a day doing nothing else but jump wouldn't be a problem in covering vast distance in a decent ship or even introduce a special npc only bigger jump range ship for commanders who wanted to get back to their ships.

If each ticket was a single jump to a system directly connected by the commercial trade routes (as shown in the galaxy chart) then it could be treated as "instant". Perhaps with a risk of diversion due to piracy, or disallow jumping too/from systems in dangerous states.

Next step would be to hire cargo space and start trading using third-party carriers.

But there will be a commander stuck without money or ship before you know it.

Hmm...Seems like a game breaker.

A ship transfer from the bubble to Colonia is about ~61 hrs. Expenses very but from other posts on the Forum the cost varies from 1.1-1.3 times the current value of the ship (not the resale value). So the idea is that a player takes a taxi and travels back to the bubble for 61 hrs where his/her ship(s) are. Very limited per not being in command of a ship they would probably just let the game run then come back later. Some ideas...

1. A player can take a personal taxi anywhere from point a to b at a very high cost.
2. Taxis, bus services and shuttles have fixed travel routes at a lower cost.
3. Cruise ships have fixed travel routes with interesting sightseeing packages.
4. Costs would be similar to what NPC passengers pay for a player to transport them.
5. Travel could be simply from an orbiting station to a planetary base to across the galaxy.
6. The Codex could document a player's "holiday" travels.

Sounds great! An actual public transportation system within the ED universe. It adds immersion as in going all out with virtual reality not everyone owns a space ship in the ED world.

Problems? A lot. Players travelling thousands of hours across the galaxy may not like other players simply purchasing a ride and go anywhere. As credits are a lot easier to obtain exploration may take a big hit as why invest in a ship, game experience and time to become a great explorer? Just take a cruise ship to see the sights. A loss of a game skills so useful for many other aspects of the game. Being Elite Dangerous "not so friendly" players whose game style is to attack "friendly" players will figure out ways to abuse the public transportation system.

That being said let's throw in another curve ball into the mix. How about live players providing all the transportation services above? An improved Multi-Crew is a good place to consider how it would work. That opens up a whole new category of players supporting other players in real time...unless of course you get a Pirate who sells you into slavery!

Nor are the versions of my suggestions going to work for awhile...A long while. We will need atmospheric planets, interesting sites to see and maybe a bar to meet other live players. Customers will want to walk around a cruise ship being entertained with the restaurants, the bar, the nightclub and the casino. Maybe add a pool and a water slide later. Tourism on a cruise ship is all about meeting other cultures versus the ones they know, relaxing and having fun. Maybe when a Pirate boards a shuttle I and others might need personal weapons to suggest this is not a profitable career. Maybe this is too much to take on where Frontier is going with ED but ideas often generate directions the programmers never considered.

Still it is all just an idea from Dubber but maybe he posted at the right time. Frontier Devs are moving on with the game and they won't ever tell us. Sometimes I think that the complexity of game controls them more than they control it. My condolences. Whether or not they use Dubber's suggestion give him 45 minutes in a programmer conference to consider how it might fit in the future ED world you won't ever tell us about. It is an idea worth a little attention.

Whenever something in the game changes the newer ED players of the world get scared dealing with insurance and rebuys. The more experienced ones cannot always figure out "Why did you do that to mess up my game?". The extremely experienced players who have no other life knowing everything about the game with a dedicated friends support group just go with the flow and still don't always understand why the Devs did what they did with the latest greatest update. Frontier let's work on your communications skills.

Regards

Yes it is possible that if travelling to a far off Station, such as the one near the core and we are docked there, we could as well as having our ships delivered to us catch the equivalent of a taxi back to our other ships. I recommend you Best car rental sites. I also used for this to find the best taxi services in any area you want to going to.

Pay someone to play for you....

Like you can pay people to level up your characters...

I mean what is the difference, you do not want to play they game anyway.

As mentioned with the 61 or so hours for a ship from the Bubble to get to Colonia, I guess there could be a Colonia - Sol Shuttle and you could for that 3 or so days just look out the window if they implement something like a view port.

I mean it wouldn't be much different than those people who always to watch Twitch streams of someone else playing than actually playing the game themselves...
