Teamwork Is Important: It Gives You Someone To Blame! The Team MMO Survivor's Thread

This thread is about surviving other games, to find Elite a casual-player friendly, solo game. It's a kind of recovery group :)

I've bought into Elite, and not just because I like the base game from way back when.

Elite: Dangerous allows you to play as a solo player. Elite: Dangerous allows you to play the game as one of the "little guys". Elite: Dangerous does not, in short, have the drama associated with team play in competitive MMO's, if you choose to play solo.

I have watched decades-old friendships break up, due to what competitive team shooters turn even the calmest people into.

The three worst, for me, are World Of Tanks, World Of Warplanes, and Mechwarrior Online.

Solo players have little chance of surviving in those games, and teams turn into the worst High School Cliques you can imagine (Apologies to UK readers, I'm not familiar with the UK equivalent). Lord Of The Flies. Little Korporal's on The Ost Front. "I'm Chuck Yeager, and you're not!". "Learn To Play!".

It's not a fixable problem. The combination of competitive ego, and Internet culture, make many games quite toxic to play, if a single-player mode isn't viable.

That's why I think ED has a future. It's a market niche for more mature players and playstyles. And, I think that niche will grow with time.

Do you agree? Discuss.
