Technical question, graphics card upgrade

My current Nvidia 1050i seems to be starting to not run Evolution as well, need help deciding on an upgrade that my PC can handle. It's an Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz processor with 16Gb RAM, looking for something that doesn't cost more than $300.

Under $300? Good luck with that. I bought my GTX 1080 when it was introduced a couple of years ago for $649 and they are selling for more than that now.

A 1060 or 1070 should be fine. I run the game fine with a 1070 Ti. Steady 60 fps with all graophics settings maxed out. I run the game in 1920x1080 though. These are older cards and Nvidia no longer makes them so you will have to buy them used.

For newer cards I would suggest a GTX 1660, a 1660 Ti should be fine at 1080p. Also you could try the AMD 500 line of cards. Though from my experience with AMD GPU's they tend to run hot and loud. If you don't mind your GPU getting warm and sounding like a small plane engine then you could try one of them.

Thank you for your help. I did an online PC test and it recommended that I get an AMD 580 card, looked them up and they're less than $200 on Amazon. Though there seems to be like a dozen different versions of the 580, which one would be the best?

If you can wait a short while (hopefully no more than a month) the new AMD 5500 series cards are coming out, which replace the AMD RX570 rx580 and 590. They are a newer architecture so are far more power efficient and therefore run cooler for a smaller card.

The old RX580s are likely to get heavily discounted to clear stock, close to and immediately after the launch of the 5500. So you could pick up one of the old AMD rx580 or 590 series cards for a bargain

Problem is the new cards' prices will likely be way too much for what I can afford right now. The 590 seems to be a good choice, though, just checked them out and they're pretty cheap right now as well. Don't know if my rig could handle it, though, I'm not very techno-savvy.

It's worth noting that JWE is more CPU intensive than GPU intensive with larger parks. It would be worth checking to see if the problem lies with the CPU first. You will see little to no improvement with a GPU upgrade if you are already CPU bottlenecked.

I ran a couple of PC checks and they stated my processor and memory were fine. I was also able to play Evolution with no problem until recently, and I've kept the card and PC updated. A couple of other games I have, XCom 2 and Overwatch, have also begun to somewhat struggle sometimes.
