HOTAS > Keyboard + Mouse
HOTAS + VR > HOTAS > Keyboard + Mouse

...but at the end of the day it's what people are most used to and comfortable with.

Why on earth would you think keyboard and mouse is more of an advantage than a HOTAS?

you've asked yourself why most PvP have gone to keyboard + mouse?

Then why in pvp threads, is reccommended the use of mouse + keyboard in competitive pvp, because of relative mouse features (even improved in Beyond as was said) when firing long range fixed weapons?

Because most of them have always had them, most HOTAS setups don't have enough additional axes to make the transition worthwhile, and because there is a significant cost and space requirement for those that do.

I've got a keyboard and mouse, pretty good ones actually. I've also played first person shooters, some at a fairly high level, for as long as they've existed. I've also flow aircraft and spacecraft in many games with them. I've also experienced the FA-Off accuracy advantages in Elite: Dangerous with them.

In the end, I still prefer a good HOTAS setup, purely on the basis of functionality, rather that flavor, for PvP in ED. It's not all-round better, but I'll gladly trade some degree of long-range accuracy for the superior thruster control and better control placement of the setup I prefer. Maybe if I could find a mouse I liked with twenty buttons, or was willing to layout the cash for an ultra high-end stick, I could have the best of both worlds, but until then I use what I've got and that happens to be my full CH products HOTAS+pedals setup.

I always thought to myself, after watching some youtube videos, that some cmdrs have an amazing aim with fixed weapons, and that no matter how much i try, i can never replicate that.
Most of them probably use the mouse for aiming right?

Can the controls be configured to use a HOTAS and a mouse at the same time? I mean, use the joystick for almost everything and then only go for the mouse to fine tune the aim when needed?

I did try with a fly stick , not a HOTAS per se but it would not have made a diffirence in my decision. I decided I was very comfortable with mouse and keyboard.

My problem is that I frequently alt + tab from Elite which is why i rely heavily on docking computer. Some repetitive stuff are too tedious and I dont want always to wait. In this scenario sticking with mouse and keyboard has a clear advantage.
