As you won't let us get taxis to ships we own, can we at least use telepresence to pilot any ship we own?
You could use a sc-fi get out of jail free card, like the signals use Quantum Tunneling as to how it's instantaneous communication. The added risk of telepresence piloting could also come with an insurance penalty i.e only covers 50%.
