Temporarily suspend military rank

Right now, it serves no function but to extend the grind, and it's a skinner box, IMO. Please suspend the entire system of ranks completely, allowing us to buy any ship and travel to any system, until military ranking becomes a proper career path.

I know this is absurd, but it's an extension of the grind. It's why the playerbase is trying to min/max ranking far more so than they would under normal circumstances - everyone's doing it, and it's sad. Please, lift that requirement until this is sorted. Thank you.

I agree and totally disagree with you..... I would tie ALL ships into a faction....
Anaconda - Alliance port.
Imperial Cutter- Empire.
Federal Corvette- Federation
all the way down to....
Eagle (Federation)
Imperial Eagle (Empire)
Viper (Alliance)

Seriously.... Buying ...Especially the larger ships is just like buying a long range bomber or fighter jet.... No government is just going to let anyone buy one..... if it was just a function of cash every criminal or terrorist would buy one......

Because pirates clearly do not have ships in this game, right?

Yeah, that would be real good. Make all cmdrs that have worked hard know how stupid they were to do that, when all they had to do was wait for you to ask FD to make it so.

Yeah, real good idea

I did the grind for the Corvette. Not repeating the same for the Cutter. It is not worth it, especially given that once I can outfit the Cutter I do not really need it anymore as I have all the money that I would need.

So, since some went through the grind, everyone else should, too? Sorry, completely disagree. We should make it as good as we can for those that come after us in every aspect of life, from the real world to the most insignificant thing, like a game.

That'd spoil many folks experiences.

How so? Please elaborate.

ONe of the issues is that it didn't used to be a grind. One was able to achieve king or Admiral in a month. Now, if you tried that, you'd have to leave your job/wife/kids to do it in the same timeframe.
The goalposts shifted and those who ranked up earlier have a severe advantage over the latecomers.. (I know this because I'm a beta backer ;*)

I like playing for promotions, as do others. For every issue or problem -real or imaginary- there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

Currently, you can either passively progress by playing near minor factions and never get all of the ships, or you can actively work towards it (What most would prefer to do), and grind on and on for hours upon hours with little benefit. There is nothing compelling about the process for the majority. I think it should be suspended for that reason.

Obviously people seem compelled enough to work for it, otherwise why are they doing it? Not every ship needs to be available to every player. If you choose to grind ranks that is a choice.

Exactly this really. There are Navy Ranking developments that I would like to see but at the end of the day the ships, that ranking progression unlocks, compel. If you don't like the career, the ship's not worth it to you, so don't do it?
