One thing that would make mass PvP events easier to arrange and attend to would be a set of deployable markers (a variation of the limpets).
They could be used to guide commanders to certain locations on planets or in systems. They could also be used to set up race coursed on planets, in asteroid fields and such.
To reduce clutter, they could be short lived. A few hours or maybe a day. To prevent "sabotaging" of race courses you could make a limiter, preventing more than one commander to set up markers within 5 or 10 kilometres.
Abilities would be:
Make markers either findable for anyone passing by, like POI's, or invited commanders only. This could be managed through the specific limpet controller type.
Race course markers, or gates, could be numbered with a complementary shield type that using a clearly visible colour indication if a participant has passed them all in the correct order.
Flag markers for CTF events. Combined with that special shield type that changes colour if you're holding the flag. This event type would require a slightly more advanced invite model, letting the organiser set shield colours depending on which side you're on.
