Temporary Goods Storage/warehousing

Hi Guys,

So I can store my ships for free anywhere in the Galaxy but why can't I temporarily store cargo?

I am not talking about a massive warehouse or anything, just a small amount like a cargo hold full at a time.

Why would I want to do this?

Say I am full of cargo for my next delivery and my mission I have just completed offers me some goods I want
or need that is more convenient to get here instead of warping across the Galaxy. If the only way for me to get
said reward is to offload cargo I have on board this may break my next mission but if I could store it for my return
leg then that would be convenient.

I wouldn't even mind paying a small fee for the storage, or alternatively if I left it there for long enough it would be
auctioned off or stolen as with real Self Storage facilities. Another real world analogy would be Bonded Storage at
International Freight Terminals where goods can be left until picked up and then the Duty is paid.

This would also solve the issue of non-delivery of some Missions because of no cargo space issues.

Cheers

Doing this would be at least something for FDEVs, really. Maybe it could lead us to cargo storing finally.

You can add to this too, allow us to when storing our own ship the cargo can stay in the ship also. Then you can swap ships and do something else for a while and come back to your trading / mining runs etc.

No extra space needed in this scenario.

I would imagine the concern would be it creating an economy FDev can't control as it would be entirely player driven and possibly end up being controlled by a small number of major player groups. I personally have no problem with this actually & perhaps mass storage could be a function of one of the Fleet Carrier modules, if they are still planned to be added to the game.

I'd like this if there was a storage charge, and if the goods are stored at a particular station and not accessible in other places. (So there wouldn't be an exploit using the storage to move cargo about).

I've suggested this before:

Allow a docked ship to be overloaded - consider it to be storing excess cargo dock-side. This excess must be cleared before the ship is allowed to leave port.

This allows receiving delivery cargoes, swapping between stored ships, and receiving prize goods.

You would not be allowed to buy goods when overloaded.

This solves a number of headaches with cargo capacity, without causing wider repercussions. But it still does not allow the player to leave cargo behind.

I thought delivery missions can be accepted by any ship now because there is the depot?
