General / Off-Topic Tempted By The XBox One X

Why am I posting "XBox One X" to a PS4 forum, you ask? Long story short, if I upgrade my PS4 Slim, I'm very tempted to get an XBox One X instead of a PS4 Pro. For just $100 more (and likely less if I catch a good sale), I would get superior hardware that is better supported by Frontier than the Playstation is. I would also get access to exclusives that I miss having on the PS4, like PUBG and Sea of Thieves.

I wouldn't be leaving the PS4 'universe', as I would keep my Slim. I would likely stop playing in PS4's ED galaxy, however, and this is part of the dilemma of switching. I don't mind starting a new CMDR from scratch (I think it would be fun, actually), but I do wonder if XBox has the number of cool players that I've met here on the PS4 platform. Perhaps I need to start hanging out in the XBox forum to see who's there.

If I made this switch, I would also switch to HOTAS, because I'd be giving up everything I love about the PS4 controller in ED.

I'm still very much on the fence. I am losing faith in Frontier's ability to code for the PS4 (six months of horrendous shadows will do that), especially when I see what other companies have been able to do. However, I really do like this game... I guess I should ask myself if I like it enough to spend $400 or $500 to be able to play it with decent visuals... Which brings me full-circle - if I am willing to spend $400 to get those decent visuals (PS4 Pro), then what's an extra $100 to get amazing 4K visuals?

Has anyone else faced this temptation? I'm probably in the minority since most of you already own the Pro, but I am curious what you think, especially as you compare your Pro to the XBox One X.

My son just picked up an xbox one x or what ever the new one is called at a pawn shop near his home for 200 bucks and a 30 day money back guarrente. Don't know where ya live, but hey, pawn stores have better deals. On the other hand, the only consoles I can find at pawn stores here are nintendo's. LOL

Was tempted when One X 4K Elite was announced. The PS4 Pro isn't really getting enhanced anymore with Elite it seems and not really getting the love I think it deserves from FDev. I believe it's because the game just isn't as popular on the PS4 as the other platforms.

I decided I could not be bothered to start again and I still prefer the Sony first party stuff. So will slum it with Elite on the Pro.

Fairly sure thats not an Xbox one x at that price-if it is that's one pawn shop that's losing money:D

Xbox one S maybe?

Having spent considerable time playing the CG this weekend, I've come full circle to your line of thinking. This game is just crawling with bugs, and it's not only PS4-specific bugs. Frontier fixes one bug only to replace it with two more. Sure, a PS4 Pro or XBox One X might solve my problem with abysmal shadows, but I would still have all these other bugs to contend with. Seeing that every other game I play on PS4 is wonderful as-is, I'm better "slumming it" with these crappy shadows in ED and invest my limited funds in alternative games to play. And here I thought 3.0 would be different....

When is Subnautica coming to PS4?

You can have all FDev transfer all your assets over to your cmdr you would start on the Xbox. You would lose any ranks you have but all assets would transfer. So it’s not a complete reboot.

That's not my point (I actually think starting over might be kinda fun). I don't want to pay $400-$500 for a new console to get a minor improvement in graphic quality while much of Elite Dangerous remains broken. I checked, and there are actually more bug reports on the XBox than there are for PS4 since 3.0 dropped. By the time Frontier fixes all these old, current, and yet to be released bugs, the PS5 will be out :p

note - this is an evolution of my thinking since my OP

I see where your coming from. I was just saying that you stated starting over and you wouldn’t have to if you didn’t want to. But ya I am grouped up with the kumo guys for PP and they are across all the platforms. From what I hear from everyone the bugs really are just as prevalent on each platform.

I understand your frustrations. I bought a PS4 Pro (upgrade from original PS4) specifically to get the best experience when ED was released even though I don’t have a 4K tv and no plans to get one (unless my old Sony HD tv decides to die). With quality mode the visuals are better and I really enjoy the experience (despite the bugs).

However, I have also been a loyal Sony and PlayStation follower for most of my life and have never had any interest in an Xbox, although before the PS4 release I was tempted to pick up a second hand Xbox one as I couldn’t wait to play ED! I am on holiday at the moment so haven’t experienced the latest set of bugs and crashes since 3.03 and 3.04 dropped, but following the forums it seems the bugs are platform-wide.

I would sit tight and see how things go - maybe wait for PS5 - which also might make PSVR a more viable option!

Hey Ducky The Xbox section of ED players are more than friendly and I bet within a couple of weeks you would have been in various xbox live party's, chatting away, playing oh say ..... Sea of Thieves ....Subnautica .... Surviving Mars .

All you would need to do would be is be proactive sending friend requests and jumping, sometimes uninvited, into your new friends party's, to chat and say 'hi'.

Hope I haven't broken any console specific forrum rules having posted the above.
