Terrace tool, please help!

Okay, so I have been struggling the whole day with the Terrace Tool, I am so frustrated right now and I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

It seems that whenever I try to use the Terrace tool to create a shallow water in my temperate EU map, it never works. I tried different maps and it works fine there. Pictures for comparision, the exact same settings of the terrace tool, totally different results based on the map biome? Can anyone help me out please? I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Here is the first test, as you can see everything works as intented on this desert map, the warter is perfectly aligned with the surface and the tool created a nice shallow hole for a pool:

Now for the temperete EU map...as you can see, the settings are exactly the same, buit it fails to create a shallow hole and the water cannot be placed to align with the suraface.

I am completely frustrated by this, not sure if this is a bug or what is going on. Anyone noticed similar issue?

I've also had a lot of problems using that tool, to the point that I don't use it anymore unfortunately.
Do you by any chance play on the Temperate map?

Because that is the weird part, I tried a desert and a tropical maps and the tool work there as intended, but when I try to use it on the European Temperate map, it is almost like if it was coded as the regular make a hole tool. It is incredibly frustrating as I have been trying to make a shallow pool for my Otter enclosure and just cant.

That's one of my most used maps so probably yes, I might have had the issue on the temperate map.

It's not the tool that's broken; it's the map that's broken.
I didn't test them all, but Taiga Map also works fine. The thing is, PZ is counting water lvl every 1 meter. The shallow pool offset is calculated from the closest defined water lvl (that is set and not changeable in the map) minus, let's say, 10–15 in game centimeters.
So, in most of the maps, 1st define water lvl is even with ground lvl, that's allowed to make a waterhole fill up literally to the brim. But in Temperate map, for any reason, the whole ground lvl is raised above the water lvl about 45 in game cm. That's creating these deep holes.
Actually, it should be reported as a bug, since the most common map in use is suffering from it. From one side, it should be easy to fix, from other - all zoos created so far will suffer from it, since all water bodies would overflow. Oh well, climate change is real...

Thank you so much for the detailed explaining! I was not sure if I was doing something wrong, I appreciate you looking into the issue and actually figuring it out.

@Lydiah Moon @Jens Erik @Tim Smith Hey guys, sorry for tagging you, I am sure you have your hands full with the release of the upcoming pack, but could you please bring this issue to the devs whenever you have a moment?

I tried to make some ponds in the new Oceania temperate map for the new animals and this is still broken. I had to dig a very deep hole to put some water in and then the water level is too below the ground level, with a very step incline for the animals to get into the water. I know Lydia confirmed the team is looking at this issue, so I hope this gets fixed soon. Temperate maps are my most used ones.

That is rather dissapointing. I have abandoned my main zoo set in temperate map in hopes I could go back to it later when the issue is fixed because I just could not finish my Otter enclosure (that was the mascot for the zoo, so I wanted a really nice enclosure for them), and that was several updates ago. I wish more people would report this issue, so it would get fixed.

I am also experiencing this. I managed to get the Oceania map to work by playing about with the ground levels but it takes an awful lot of effort to do something which should really be automatic.

I don't know when this was updated, but now the terrace tool to create shallow water in the European temperate map is working again 🥳 . The water reamins a bit lower and it's not perfectly alligned to the surface like in most maps, but at least it works and we can use the smooth tool to make it look good. Did you notice this @FoxyDee?

However, the terrate tool to crete shallow water is still broken on the following maps:
  • Asian tropical map
  • South American tropical map
  • Oceanian temperate map

I hope these three maps are fixed someday too.

It was fixed? I must have missed that in the patch notes or wasn't mentioned, good news that's another bugfix from my wishlist crossed off.

Was it? I did not notice, but I will check this for sure when I have a moment. 😊
