Terrain Generator for Sandbox!!

I personally find it hard to just start on a sandbox with no terrain. It's overwhelming. I like it much more when there is just a blank map with terrain. It gives me ideas! This would be an awesome feature to see in a future update, or even a mod!

?? There is already terrain in the sandbox parks, literally hundreds of tonnes of the stuff. I guess I just don't understand your idea.

I guess what he means is that the general Area is very flat. You have to put all the Terrain Details in every time you start a Sandbox map. But on the flipside i can see it also being annoying to remove those randomized Terrain Details every time. But yes, it is quicker to remove a Mountain than to sculpt and detail one.

i don’t get it either. We definitely have terrain forming which is always available. Its always blank as you mentioned

I think he's asking for a button that you click to create a randomly generated map complete with mountains, hills, lakes, rivers, trees, etc. You won't have to create a map yourself or use whats already pre-built. You just click a button, and poof, a map gets randomly created. They'll be dropdown boxes where you can choose what parameters you want.

Example:

[Click to Generate]

Map Theme: Tropical/Desert/Grassland/Alpine/Deciduous/Arctic/etc
Mountains: Yes/No
Lakes: Yes/No
Rivers: Yes/No
Trees: Yes/No
Flowers/Bushes/Rocks: Yes/No

In older games where the landscape was flatter and not this voxel (is it called voxel?) type terrain, we would be able to adjust percentages.... Mountains: 30%, lake: 20% river 25% etc.

But it is easier to code for simpler type maps. Easiest is the old isometric games. :D I remember the old game Tiberian Sun (which I still play sometimes!) you can generate like this.

But I guess, nothing is impossible. However, the question is if the end result is pretty enough to be used as is or needs A LOT of polishing afterward.

Rather than random, I would love to see the game access a data source such as this:

U.S. National Map

Enter latitude and longitude coordinates and have the game translate topographic data to the landscape. That would be awesome, and make recreating real areas way easier.
