Your Feature Request / Idea
(Note that though this may be long, it is not a wishlist. I am describing how I believe this idea would work)
An idea I’ve had that I believe would be highly beneficial to deepening dinosaur AI is territory.
Territory would be established by the alpha. The alpha and members of the alpha’s group would stay predominantly within the radius of this territory. Rather than having territory, herbivores without alphas would behave as they do now, or perhaps be constantly moving, only stopping to eat, drink, socialize, and sleep.
Territory holders would occasionally leave their territory if possible, and maybe even try to expand it. Groups would only be led out of their territory by the alpha. This would allow for more nuanced hunting and grazing behavior, and for territorial disputes, all of which would deepen dinosaur behavior over all. This behavior would be especially interesting to see in a Site-B/Sanctuary style setting.
Territory would factor into large enclosures being shared by different territory-holding species, ie Raptor pack picks one side of the paddock, Rex picks the other, with occasional confrontations.
When trying to contain an escaped dinosaur, causing it to panic by using a Jeep or another dinosaur could cause it to try fleeing back to its territory, which would have been established inside its enclosure after a certain period of time. If a dinosaur has been out of its paddock for long enough, it could establish its territory somewhere else in the park, meaning it will no longer try to flee back to its enclosure.
I hope this idea finds you all in good health, and that you take it into consideration.
