Powerplay Terrorism - The Art of PowerPlay

What have you done for your power lately?

"Killed a few thousand of President Hudson's soldiers in the name of the Emperor."
"WHAT?! Why?"
"Mostly for money"
"Isn't that an act of war?"
"He doesn't seem to care"

This is somehow equivalent to purchasing 100 mil worth of pamphlets and delivering them to a neighbor system. This begs the question - what exactly is on those pamphlets?

I write this as I just blew up a Type-7 and got a 5000 credit bounty. Then was interdicted and shot at by a vulture, so I destroyed him and got a 6,000 credit bounty for defending myself.

I'm so confused right now.

PowerPlay :

Convincing People their actions would have any effect on the Galaxy, while in reality it only reveals their very own nature and lowest motivations! :D

I just love that virtual game of Risk that takes place in a completely unrelated parallel Universe, broke with the entire lore of ELITE and tossed 10 so-called Leaders - that do everyhing but lead - into the Game to no other effect than give Players a route to mindlessly grind meaningless merits for personal gain or shifting colorful bubbles around the inhabited Galaxy. To absolutely no meaningful effect.

"Death to Blue!!"
"Yarrr! Death to Orange! All hail Blue and bask in its gory!".
My goodness...

Either way, my personal favorite has to be Archon Delaine.
A supposed ruthless and tremendously powerful & fearsome Pirate Overlord.

Yet... it turns out to be the most Democratic Pirate "Leader" ever conceived :
Archon "I'll let you guys vote on this" Delaine :D

PowerPlay is just hilarious.
Anytime I read guys grinding, fighting, killing and dying over this to no end just makes me laugh...
So, regardless of being entirely pointless in its current incarnation, at least folks can grind to get the PowerPlay perks they can stuff into their Ships. That's something I guess, at least for all these Mercenaries.

Either way, by judging what they do and not what the bizarre/unlreated ASCII Text states about them...
Yes, all 10 "Powers" are nearly identical Terrorists. All of them. Engaged in unwarranted, all-open warfare against any "Power" who's not them.
Go figure... And choose wisely if you'd want to be part of that murderous machinery.

The problem with Archon Delaine is that Frontier have given us the exact same things to do as the rest of the powers, which is take "things" from A to B or kill "stuff" somewhere else.

With all the undermining we receive it is hard to do anything else more 'piratey'.

I always wanted Archon to be like the barbarians in the strategy game Civilisation, in that they are mobile with no fixed base. I'd love it if they had a station like Jaques and just went off killing and plundering, and next week they would turn up somewhere else. No ties to systems, just turn up unannounced. Being a power forces you to be a power, and that just does not fit being a pirate at all. Archon is about absolute, terrifying Nietzsche style freedom.

That's right. Which is why all of the pirate groups (code etc) left after 4 weeks when it turned out that the cytoscrambler was not good. I sometimes wonder what proportion of the payers participate in PP. Not much by the attention that it is given.

They could make things so good with very little effort:

I thought perhaps each Power needs a CG per cycle, like an 'aim' set by its leader. For example:

Archon demands his pirates pirate as much freight in system X or power Y as possible.

As its a CG, you can tailor the tier triggers to its playerbase (so ALD or Hudson has bigger triggers than Archon Delaine). It means others can support your power without joining it. These missions could also add variety as they would be different to the usual fortify, oppose, expand routine.

It could get more inter power fights going too. "Archon demands Utopian gold" for example.

Powerplay is only used to get special items, then you leave and join another power in 3 weeks time to farm the merits for next cycle.

Powerplay is an absolute joke and was a terrible waste of Frontiers money thanks to solo and private groups having an influence on it. The fact that the trading Mahon guy is in 1st place should show this. Now Elite:Truckers edition can get a bonus to their trucking, so they can truck harder, for more reward.
