Test driving ships before you buy

How about being able to nick off with it during the test drive? Instant bounty placed on your head, NPCs aligned with the shipyard chasing you all around the galaxy, CMDRs homing in on your bounty and all this because you fancied the look of the Imperial Eagle ;)

considering bounties only last a week and the police relatively suck....

What do others think, would you like to be able to test drive a ship before you buy it ?
It could be as simple as taking it out of a station and flying it around and going back or going on a shakedown cruise, you could include weapons testing against drones or even NPC's, you are liable for damage/fines etc.
It's time limited and returns you back to the station it came from.

Well they would not just hand you the keys of a ship and say here you go, i hope you come back.

I would say instead. They let you fly in a simulator to test it out.

Or

YOu buy the ship but have a short time limit to sell it at no lost value. And if you break it you bought it.

I would rather a simulator of the ship. BUt even then you can really test a ship without upgrading it to where you want it anyway.

Might work but are you happy to pay for the full cost if you crash or insurance.... Sorry if that's been said didn't read full thread....

The first Wing Commander had a simulator disguised as an arcade game in the bar didn't it?

If they could pull it off 25 years ago, why can't FD do it now?

This at the very least will be a requirement before they come out with that lousy idea of module selling with a loss, since we cannot know how ships will behave with various loadouts.

I already do this. I buy the ship, test it out and sell it. So you loose 10% but who cares, just call it the rental fee.

What if we could return the ship at full price assuming it has been less than 30 minutes and we haven't accepted any missions or done any trading or anything else beyond flying it around?
