Test Server Access?

I would like to know if or any access to the Test Server is ever going to made public, or in the fundraising sense, are they ever be sold as a "Game Extra" in the store.

I would like to clearify this is not the same as being an Alpha or Beta backer, not talking about giving away the "swag" (in game bonuses, out of game bonuses.) of the backers but simply public access to the test server environment. To allow testing of coming content as well as a general environment to test things.

Everything from builds, game play mechanics to, bug testing, setting off the self destruct just because.

Having an open test environment for everyone would be a boon to the game as a whole, and having more potential testers during content releases provides a higher opportunity to catch bugs before they release, especially since most of the Betas only last a week, not alot of time to catch bugs imho.

Probably when they don't have enough people testing the beta. Right now they have enough people so why should they undermine the privilege of those who paid more for their copy?

It's Beta testing, this has nothing to do with privilege. Those people who paid have a whole slew of bonuses, lowered insurance etc. and that's not what I'm talking about, I'm talking about access to the test server.

But you bring up an interesting point, to deny test server access in perpetuity just because a group of people found out about the game and paid a long time ago, is pretty unfair.

Swag is fine, even in game give-you-a-leg-up bonuses in game, perfectly fine. Hell if FD gave Alpha and Beta backers free stuff every month, that is completely understandable, because yes, those people paid and supported the game in it's nascent days.

but not making the Betas accessible by everyone who wants to test, that's a stretch to far. There are things I want to test, bugs to report and more importantly, mechanics I want to test out. And it's unfair that I can't do that, I literally have to wait for launch day and try doing testing with my live character. and some of the more costly things I can't even TRY to test because I'm not going to do it with my live toon.

I've never played a game where the main test environment was gated like this.

You only have to wait a week for most of the new stuff to hit. It's not like we get to play it for months before you ;)

That's not the point and you know it, it has to do with having a test environment to ya' know.....test things. Things you wouldn't otherwise do on your main/live toon.

Really because it seems to me most games these days have limits on Beta access.

Sorry you missed out on buying into it early, but many of us Beta testers had been waiting nearly 30 years for a sequel

And when you run the beta you are at the start of your carreer. They don't let youy carry on ffrom your saved palced in the full game. So that is why they offer ships at discount prices in beta. And when the beta is finished you are back where you ;left the game in the live servers. No added bonus for bug testing other than what we got at the release of the game in December.

Most betas are gated. Of course it's a privilege. You want in but you can't because you didn't pay.

Beta periods are gated, as in BEFORE launch. This is Post Launch now, and this is in regards to Test Server access, which is usually given to anyone with a paid account (F2P) model, or anyone with a current account (P2P) model. In the post launch world, Test Server access is usually a given.

And BTW and for the record, it's not because I didn't pay, it's because by the time I found out about this games existence, there was no beta being sold anymore, if it was a case of money, I would march over the FD store and pay it right now but that's not the case, it physically isn't available.

So yeah you're not really wanting to report bugs, just sore you don't get to test the new ships early...

actually, I do want to test bugs, and specifically Wings related bugs, because when I ran into the "whole lower you landing gear and you die" bug much to my disdain. I would like to not repeat that performance or run into worse bugs. because as you know alot of people just docked up and waited, ie. NOT played while someone that should of been caught before it went live, was not caught.

Why do you want beta anyway?

Test server access.

Be happy that there are a lot of people who can play beta because they believed in this game, and put money upfront for it.

You were late to the party...............they don't need you to test it as they already have a lot of people doing that..............they have it covered........./thread.

I don't need you telling me what I need and don't need thank you very much. And a test environment is more then testing for FD it's also about testing changes to environment in terms how of how it effects the players game play as well.

I don't understand what you mean. You want to test your network?

Edit: it's not about you. It's for the benefit of fd and they control who has access. They clearly don't need more otherwise they would open it up to more.

There is a test server, IE completely seperate server for testing purposes. These environments are for testing new mechanics, modified mechanics/see what's been changed, bug reporting, etc.

Usually pre-launch, such testing environments are closed Betas, usually for backers/earlyadopters/invited people, however post launch, that environment is usually opened up for people to test things with, even between major content releases.

You probably have seen them before, or at least heard it in conversation, usually you see then called PTD(Public Test Domain) or PTS(Public Test Server) or PTR(Public Test Realm) or some other in universe name or some such.

Well they don't need you, they already have 1000s of beta testers.
