Community Event / Creation Testing the Waters: A Giveaway for the ED Folks

(mods please let me know if this should be moved, but I want to aim this at ED players only, which is why I did not post in Off-Topic)

DISCLAIMER: This Giveaway is NOT happening RIGHT NOW. If it's something people are interested in, I will announce it once I have sorted all the details.

Hey everyone, CMDR Kat here.

I've been trying to think of ways to increase my subs on youtube/twitter/twitch, etc. One thing I have going for me is that I have access to some hardware that I have no care for selling. So I thought I might do one of those "reach x amount of subs and I'll give away y item."

It's nothing fancy, mind you, but here's what kind of stuff you would be looking at.

HP EliteBook 8440 Laptop - I have a few of these. Model number might be wrong, but they are essentially mobile workstations. Nothing fancy whatsoever, not very expensive and slightly used (in most cases), but they work fine. Would come with a proper adapter and clean Windows 7 + CD Key.

Drawing Tablets - These vary in size and model but they are all Wacom Intuos III and above. I would only give away ones with the proper working stylus.

Computer Internals - Used computer parts are always a gamble, but you can't exactly lose with free, right? The variety spans to just about all parts - RAM, HDDs,, GPUs, CPUs, PSUs, etc. None of what I have is state-of-the-art, but some examples would be 1TB HDDs, Core i7 3.0gh+, AMD FX 4.0GHz (I have a few of these, but they're AMD...) CPUs, generally 2GB+ GPUs(vary in manufacturer and model). Monitors are generally not that great, but once in a while I find some decent models. Most are Dell.

Other Goodies - Really depends on what I have available. I'm not a wealthy person, I just have good networking and one of my hobbies is fixing up and giving away tech that gets prematurely thrown away. I have put together desktops for co-workers that would have been worth ~$2-3k if all the parts were brand new (so, roughly ~$1k used with an unknown longevity) I have factory reset and rebuilt laptops for family members and all this I do for free.

The only downside is shipping fees might kill me. :p

But, it might be worth it if I can get myself out there and get more visibility, especially as part of the Pioneer Programme.

What do you guys think?

Seems like a bit much to give away. I'd rather sell it.

The way I see it, I stand more to gain by giving them away rather than selling them. It's an obligation that I don't mind upholding. If people wish to donate toward the running of my twitch and website(which hasn't been published yet, working on that), I'm totally open to that. But I've consigned not to make a profit from these items.

Sounds like a data breach nightmare, being Dells etc it sounds like ex office IT. Have drives been wiped, if so, how?

I think giveaways only get you so far. The content of what you produce is what is really going to sustain and build your channel. Some folks put tons of effort into their programs and it shows while others keep it simple. So my advice would be to snazz out your show and then do the giveaway. You want those new faces to stick around and refer their friends. Myself... I just stream for my own amusement and record of my exploits. If folks want to watch, that's fine too.

Very sportsmanlike of you. So, it's times like these when you may make the suggestion that the winner donates between x and y pounds to a charity of some sort (chosen by yourself, if that is your fancy.)

Pretty much it. Outdated units that I've factory reset. All have Win 7 Pro, which I have a CD for and reinstall that way. All units still have the CD key intact on the bottom and I've installed most of the factory drivers. They really aren't anything special.

Not interested by the giveaways but always glad to find new ED content on youtube : channel subscribed. GL Katejina.

This is true, which is why I am simply probing for interest at the moment. I've been on an expedition since May 1st and am finally looking to return in a week or so. I am putting together a very large, very detailed exploration guide and am working on some fun features for my twitch. By the time I run the giveaway, I will hopefully have the content required for a regular sub-base.

Bumping for interest.

I now have 3 Star Wars Battlefront PC codes to giveaway. More to come on that in the next week.

Back again to add I have 3 "Game and Stuff" DLC codes for Sims 4 - so exciting I know, but it's something. And it'd be free. :)

So the list is growing!
