Thank You, FD - Crime and Punishment has made actual bounty hunting a real thing!

FD, the new Crime and Punishment system is awesome. With bounties that don't expire, can't be sideyed away, and that don't clear unless detected and claimed, players now have the option to go out and actively bounty hunt.

This new system has brought some meaningful, contextual legal PvP to this game. Not all the meaningful PvP that the game needs, but certainly a valid avenue for it.

Great job! (And, please, don't change a thing!)

I had a good old time yesterday in a Comp Nav beacon, wasn't being particularly careful, so by the time I finished I had a 1.2m bounty just from friendly fire incidents. lol. It's a constant worry in open now. Notoriety is now at 8 (down from 9 last night. This is gonna take a while. lol.

Oh.... Well I can come help you clean up that nav beacon. Just let me know ;)

That's the way folks! Instead of bemoaning the new system, see the positives and wear your bounties with pride!

Now that the only options are to either own up and pay them off or to learn to live with them until someone better comes along to collect, true consequences have been added to one's actions.

Remember - there are no acceptable accidents when deploying nuclear weapons.

I wish I had more rep for you, Hess :)

I always knew you were a good guy Vin.

if you kws and kill me in a system i am not wanted in, what happens to my bounties?

Right now, I think you have to pay them all at the detention center, but not sure.

That is supposed to change with the KWS changes, but I think a lot of it is up in the air.

From what I have been reading with the 3.0.3 KWS changes it would be something like this:

Bounties for factions aligned with the same superpower as the controlling faction of the jurisdiction (read look at the indicator as to whose space you are in)in which you are brought to book would be claimed and payable at the Detention Center
The same goes for any bounties issued by factions with a presence in the same system as above.
All other bounties would still remain intact, unpaid, and uncollected - but you are given a free pass on exiting the Detention Center until you H-Jump out of system so as not to create choke points.

Hope this helps

Not all the meaningful PvP that the game needs, but certainly a valid avenue for it.

As a reminder, Sandro made this comment recently:

I understand that chasing fugitives across multiple systems and multiple governments is no longer an option for the Kill Warrant scanner. However This is something we will be looking to address in a future update, where we'd like to improve wake scanning and look at other modules, such as tracker limpets (No ETA, no guarantees, obviously).

On a slightly different tangeant...I always said if criminality ever got real consequences, I start playing in open after two years in solo. True to me word, Ive been in open 100% since 3.0 dropped and I can honestly say, Im havin a lotta fun and even though the system isnt perfect, its a helluva lot more than what was there before.

That being said, Id like the ATR to be even tougher...as in they should be pure poison to even the strongest players...cos thats their job is it not?

Glad you're having so much fun in Open Play. :)

Not sure what the solution to ATR might be. To me, it seems like they were more an answer to BGS Cop Farming then taking out players. Besides... it's more fun if we do it. ;)

Now that im understanding it better, im liking the new c&p system. I just wish there was some form of bounty hunting agency that actively hunted you in engineered ships. Maybe elite dangerous might start to become dangerous again. I know players could do this but i dont see it happening often.

I agree with you for the most part, Vin. However, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, they *really* need to increase the *size* of bounties. All base bounties need a buff, & then they need multipliers for the Security of the System & for if its a repeat crime. Multiple murders should increase your bounty by more than a mere 6000 credits at a time IMHO.

I also noted a weird discrepancy yesterday.....or at least I feel it is. I've been caught out smuggling commodities more often than I'd like to admit.....but always only cop a fine. Yet last night, when I got caught "smuggling" an illegal passenger, I copped a Bounty. To my mind, this merely proves that Smuggling needs to be a Bounty worthy crime. It will certainly make me more inclined to use Silent Running (which also needs significant improvements, btw, IMHO).
