Thank you Frontier for Odyssey!

Thank you for Odyssey, I am having a great time exploring, and getting first footfall on quite a few planets. I like the way the genetic sampler works now. I realize that the game is not perfect yet, but I have no doubt that it's issues will be fixed in time. For me just being able to step out of my ship and explore on foot has given me a lot of enjoyment. I see a lot of negative posts about Odyssey and wanted to let you know that your work is appreciated by me. I do not mind the bugs, I know that they will get fixed. I have no regrets whatsoever in purchasing Odyssey, in fact, I just purchased a copy for my other account.

I am one of the super-lucky ones that has had about 90% fun to 10% frustration. On and just after May 19th, the game would crash about every 30-40 minutes for one reason or another. Since then, the hotfixes/patches have greatly improved my stability - I think in the past 4 days I have logged about 34 hours playtime and have crashed three times total. Huge improvement.

A lot of the initial bugs have not reappeared for me, either. Oh yes, there are definitely STILL bugs (the 10% I mentioned above), but I have really been drawn in by the ground mission system, collecting mats and upgrading my gear.

Again - it was definitely not a perfect release, but it's gotten better, and I bet money will continue to improve. I feel badly for those who are having nightmarish issues, and the best advice I can give is to speak with your wallet.

Well said! Of course the game isn't perfect, it's a WIP and (like all good projects) will always be so. Flaws and frustrations big and small, but they'll get ironed out. Meantime it's a lot of fun.

Before Odyssey, i play Elite Horizons 6 months nearly every day. The first look on Odyssey was awesome, i realy love it. But since the update 3.0 i wasn't able to start Odyseey or Horizon. EliteDangerous64.exe always crashes. Okay, with the update 3.15 i can start odyseey - but i have no access to my ships! I can see them on the galaxy map but Intra Astra offers me only training mission. There must be a bug in my server profile, because Horizons can't load it. All i can do is flying around with the apex shuttle and waiting for the next patch. So Frontier - i want to say thank you for that experience ;)

I wonder how much the OP was paid for that post... ;) /s

I'm playing strictly Horizons for the next 6 months or so. At least. Oddity in it's current state is a joke.
I hear ya... with the recent Ant video on VR I am just uninstalling this game, I don't like grind so there is nothing to bother with - I really feel lied to and would love a refund at this point - I have better things to do with my time - Elite is now for the Fortnite type players however long it will entertain them... The pilots federation has demoted you from Commander to Space marine - I chose retirement.

A positive thread amongst the barrage of forum negativity, what gives @The4thDoctor ? It must be so disheartening for FDEV to wade through much of it, or hear of it in team debriefs. I'm amazed we got something at all, given the C-19 crisis. So...

I'm most grateful re Odyssey for implementation of the 4way-split custom control .binds into general/ship/srv/humanoid! For years Horizons totally put me off the game for months at a time with all the frustration over the necessary custom bind redo's after various updates, but since EDO, not one .binds hiccup! I have finally been able to focus on refining all the controls onto a single gamepad to suit my needs!

I'd forgotten how good the audio is, and it's even better with EDO. The new NPC lines and varied accents amuse me. I even tend to dock and go hang out in the various cantinas when distracted by emails & non-gaming chores during an EDO session. 🎼

Really enjoying the EDO experience (90:10 fun:frustration as eloquently said above) at my own pace, it's more engaging, and I could not imagine going back to mere Horizons. For me, EDO balances out the gameplay into a much more varied yet cohesive experience for my Cmdr. I am impressed that multiple small bugs/glitches/irritants I submitted are already fixed in under a month, along with loads more listed in the patch notes! I too trust that the remainder will be mostly addressed given time. My CTDs and disconnects are less frequent already.

I hope the EDO updates roadmap will enable all non-potatoed Cmdrs to eventually enjoy the final planned expansion to ED. I feel for the aggrieved VR subset after yesterday's announcement, but FDEV's EDO resources and priorities must surely be for all of us at home to have a smooth, stable, basic experience first? We're nowhere close to that... yet. [cough - beta - cough] Plus, I gather quite a few more Cmdrs wish to play the EDO expansion via consoles this autumn, so that will be... interesting... 😏

Right on, Frontier!

Yes indeed!

Thank you Frontier for not giving us what we want, but giving us what you THINK we want.

Thank you Frontier for advertising VR and then lying and disappointing all Elite Dangerous commanders.

Thank you Frontier for releasing a game early so we can play it sooner and experience all the bugs and performance issues.

Thank you Frontier for hyping us up so much and then letting us down.

Thank you for promising a more open communication, but then only replying to the same questions over and over again.

Thank you Frontier for the hours of grind you offer, so we can quit the game earlier and go to bed sooner.

Thank you Frontier for promesing us to be more active on the forum and then barily show up.

Thank you for ruining the game I loved.

glad you see it that way and hope you enjoy it. I really wanted to love it as I have been starved for something to refresh this game for years and then I had to sit for minutes at a time while data downloaded in the game or in a taxi for even longer and I thought to myself, they did this - they actually did this... they put this into their product which gives their customers zero value, it adds nothing to their lives and just utterly wastes their time, there is no fun, no value in it, it is purely there to feed a stat and the expense of their customer and when that mentality is added to the state the game was released in and now on top of that VR and I don't see how anyone could be thankful, low expectations I guess but all the good will I had melted away and now I could care less, the company deserves no loyalty and even less trust.

nice reply cmdr, the bugs will clear, people moan and winge but in the end it will come right, horizons had the same, but couldnt play with out it now, nice comment, enjoy fly safe 07.

I’ve already put a good 50+ hours into Odyssey, a threshold that 95% of my Steam library hasn’t reached yet.

It definitely still has a lot of issues to sort out, but in spite of them I’m enjoying my time with it so far.

oh you will, I still recommend the game for new players - I just warn them to ignore the "game play", mainly the engineering because it's nothing more than a mind numbing time eating grind fest that is only meant to benefit some stat the company finds it needs, they made some of it fun enough, the first time or two but rather than adding more ways or more variety, they just want you to do it 30, 40, 100 times instead of adding content or variety to keep it fresh so keep that in mind and you will get many, many more happy hours out of the game because once you hit that grind wall and start noticing just how little respect for your time this game has, once you notice the copy and paste, you cannot un-notice it.

OK, you win the longest-sentence award ;). However ED has always been a grind, that's the fundamental nature of the game, irrespective of your playstyle (explore/fight/trade). Best to accept it and move on, which is essentially what you are saying. No disrespect.
