Thank you

I started to play Elite back in 87 or 88, on an MSX Computer. Back then, a local magazine reviewed it as "a game for a lifetime" - and that what it felt like for the 13 years old me back then. It was on a league of its own, specially compared to other MSX games. The feeling of being able to dock the station, to escape a Thargoid encounter or even some close encounter with a Wolf MK II, for me there was nothing like that on other games back then.

For some reason, I could not get much into Frontier: Elite II on the Amiga, I am not sure why. Perhaps the wireframed-style graphics had more appeal than the solid ones for me. But Elite always stayed as one of my favorite games... so I was delighted when heard about the Kickstart.

So now, when after three years playing I finally got my long sought after Imperial Cutter, I'd like to thank David Braben and the Frontier team for this amazing game. It's not perfect, and I specially long for being able to play without having to resort to 3rd party tools (and of course, for the long-dreamed Atmospheric Landings : ) ), but it's unique. Just roving around planets and finding materials, nice landscapes or listening to the sounds is soothing and enjoyable for me. I like roleplaying salvaging escape pods and getting into Distress Calls for help, and enjoy finding odd planets - that I hope one day I´ll be able to further explore.

So thank you!

Yes, this a million times.

It's great how Elite back in 1984 started my love of Space Based games, and how after years of there being a void of games set in space, Elite: Dangerous kickstarted (see what I did there? ;)) my love of Space Based games again.

Thanks David and the rest of the team at Frontier!

Wow, I'd forgotten about that!

I, too, came from the BBC/Spectrum version and played (and loved) Frontier and First Encounters via the Amiga, then PC.

ED is my "go to" game the past year. I KS'd it like most but waited until I could play in VR, and since then I've played little else.

Like most, Atmosphere and tools are my wishes, but having spent time talking to the Devs, I can see why its taking time (if it'll ever happen). In the meantime, there's so much to do!

WAITING 17 years for 'Elite IV" from the release or Frontier: First Encounters in April of 1995 to the Elite Dangerous Kickstarter in Nov 2012. I guess one part of that was getting the computer technology to allow the vision of Mr. Braben and associates.
...:)

Pretty much the same here, the nostalgia centers of the brain kick in whenever I hear Frontier: First Encounters or Daggerfall and here I am, X years later playing updated versions of both in VR - so yea, thanks Mr Braben (and Bethesda), I never envisioned this.

SkyrimVR for walkabout, fighting 'n story, Elite Dangerous for Flights of Fancy...

I will also like to add my thanks to frontier. As a young lad having an Amiga 600, never played the original at all. Even had to steal my brothers copy of elite 2 as I didn’t own it . It was an eye opener at the time as there really was nothing quite like it, and I guess that’s still true today. Was brutally hard but it just kept me coming back for more. So much to see and do if you could stay alive long enough ! Was slightly easier on the schoolmates Amiga 1200 but he did have hdd and accelerator card, so it was buttercream smooth !! Absolutely cannot wait to get an oculus rift , and experience this beast in VR. Need to get some funds together as I dropped nearly 2k on a rig for it last summer ! Can’t wait to see what’s in the near future of the game.

I will sign of with this, child of the early 80’s. The best decade! (I’m biased). Fly safe cmdrs o7. All hail the grand daddy of the space sim.

They did have it on the Amiga CD32, ya know. I never played that version. But yeah, what can I say, it's in the blood.

Enjoyed OP.

Ah FE2. That scrapey popping sound when you took off without atmospheric shielding. Accidentally hitting fire while sat on the landing pad. Attention: Mis-Jump! Robots to Sol, Liquor to Barnard's. Waiting for that ad to pop up on the bulletin board to get the last crew member for your Panther. Luvly jubbly. ED is not perfect but I keep coming back to it for over 3 years, so it is doing something right.

Always happy to add my voice to one of these threads so yes, thank you FD. This game excites me as much if not more than the original (and that's saying something 'cos I got to Elite rating on the BBC). Keep up the good work and hit me up for a pint or two at Lavecon chaps!
