Thanks alot ED for ruining piracy!!!!!!!!!!

How the ..... am I gonna survive on piracy now, when the cargo I limpet out of my target blows up even before I can pick it up? First I have to kill my target AI(because it fights back), by the time im done with him all the cargo that was dropped have exploded before i even have time to pick up 1 container. Before 2.2 I could make a good living from it, know its just worhtless, cant even finance the limpets i use!! Got dammit, you made the hatch breaker better, but ruined other parts of piracy. Got dammit ED....

Sounds like you're into assault and battery accompanied by some pick-pocketing, rather than 'Piracy'.

Open PvP piracy, it's much more fun, much more rewarding.

Piracy is a valid occupation in the game.

The shenanigans of many others using piracy as a cover damaged it a lot more than the FDevs. Perhaps reading some older threads before commenting will help.

Let's slow down and re-read the OP. It seems he only kills the NPC because it fights back after dropping cargo instead of running away. He is pirating NPCs, and actually wants the cargo not the kill. He is a real pirate not a PvPer using piracy as a cover. His problem is with the dropped cargo degrading too fast.

Get collector limpets and send them out for the cargo as soon as it drops .. all you have to do is slow down when they return.

What about using some collector limpets to collect the cargo whilst you are defending yourself? It should be fine as long as you don't go too far from the goods.

Well if that's right that needs looking at quite quickly - I was thinking of giving NPC piracy a go as so far it's the only profession I've not tried yet.

1) Launch hatch breakers.
2) Pop the AI's shield.
3) Disable thrusters of AI using missiles.
4) Use collector limpets to get the goodies.
5) Bail before the cops show up.

I think that's a problem with the target AI. If they drop cargo and leg it, you should have time to collect the cargo.

If they come back for you, they're just being stoopid.

Exactly, i never kill my victim unless i have too, but those stupid AI always fight back so i have no choice, and the fight somtimes takes some time and when im done killing the AI all that juicy cargo is gone..

And those in this thread calling me a griefer, im talking about the AI here, not other players. I have been living off piracy since the game was released and have financed all my ships with it, i was doing well, now after 2.2 dropped i cant make a dime out of it. The hull countdown on cargo was perfect before 2.2, now its ridiciolous.

and yes im using collector limpets, and too those who say i can fight and pick up stuff at the same time, bull    , the collectors cant enter the cargo bay unless i have a speed of 11, going around fighting with that speed sure is gonna get me killed. Got dammit why even have that f.... timer on the cargo, never understood the reasoning behind it other than annoying the player...

My first thought on reading the OP:

"Really? Wasn't piracy ruined sometime between 1.0 and 1.2 or did I mis-remember?" :p

Anyway yeah as others have said a good way would be to use missiles or module targeting to disable the NPC's thrusters the hatchbreakers and collectors to suck out as much as possible before the cops show up. Or engineer modules to disable thrusters, not sure how effective they are though.

Unless Frontier has changed something in 2.2, disabling thrusters is a big no-no as the target will just keep going on its current path and speed, probably spinning around meaning you can no longer use collector limpets as they only work up to ~20m/s, beyond that they just destroy cargo when trying to bring it to your hatch and the cargo (if you use hatch breakers) will be spread over too large a distance for collectors to be able to get it anyway. If the target gets its thrusters shot out, your only hope is to use your own ship to try and push the target down to under 20m/s, which will damage the target and takes time, much more than the time you have before the cops arrive.

Well First: GET A CANNON

Shotting out the Power plant(PP) gives you about One minute before the NPC comes back online. (this is new because of the 2.2).

A cannon is the BEST option for quick PP disable , even on FRAGILE targets... just get experience on the weapons and you'll be able to disable ships with their ships almost intact...

With the NPC with 1% power plant(after the reboot) , remeber to only use weak weapons on the PP, another cannonball might blow the whole up :)

That's how you can keep the enemy ship tamed while you snatch all their cargo...

Shhhhhh!

This stuff is like voodoo on here. Nobody will believe you.

Interdict the target npc, scan for cargo, wait for them to highwake, wake scan, follow and rinse and repeat until they end up in a non-inhabited system with no Feds (be patience you are stalking a victim). Take out the power plant, then simply steal all the helpless NPC cargo using hatchbreakers and collector limpets. Job done.. next.
