Thanks for 0.5 Supersampling FD

Did a quick search and can't find a thread on this.
I run with supersampling on my deskstop because it gets rid of some jaggies, but I just noticed 0.5 supersampling so I tried it on the laptop.
I don't know if 0.5 supersampling is a new feature or I just discovered it, but I want to say a big thanks to FD for implementing it.
I am going to be mobile for a while soon, maybe a long while, which means only having my low spec laptop. I have found that with a fairly low res and an underclocked 540M GPU it will play ED without cooking at a low framerate before, but with 0.5 supersampling I get a reliable 30FPS even in stations.
Discovering this just made my day.
Thanks for implementing 0.5 supersampling, FD. :)
Now I just need to fine a cheap 3g internet solution and I am away.

What exactly is .5 Supersampling, when I tried this it was like the opposite of SS. Am I understanding correct that 1x SS is "native" so 0.5x is actually a backward step (explaining why things become totally pixelated/blurry)

You have it right. Except on my desktop it would be a backward step - because it would reduce quality for no increase in framerate as I am always maxed anyway.
On my laptop it is a forward step because it makes the game playable, but it does look more pixelated.
Edit - I am actually liking the look of it - it feels like I am playing the genius child of Frontier and Descent...

super sampling is rendering at a higher res than your screen, then downscaling it to your monitor(or rift). 0.5 is like rendering half-res and upscaling to your screen resolution.

Its like they do on consoles atm, you have a display resolution and a render resolution. While it can look bad, other things can help reduce the jaggies while keeping to your displays native resolution.
