Thanks for making me play Solo PP FD

2.5 hours in open and I rack up 515 or 525 merits in undermining. Travel to the closest fed system and on the way the get auth server disconnected. Come back in after 2 trieson right away, scoop and head back only to be insta-intercepted by a wing of two. By insta-intercepted I mean Interdiction starts and 1 second later it is over and you lost. FSD failure

My vulture can't fight off an anaconda and a explorer scout so I try to get out of there but I am massed locked by the anaconda. No matter what, I should be able to out run the anaconda with 4 pips to ENG and spamming boost. At a minimum I should be putting 100m per second between us on a boost and 28m per second between us normal cruise. I would be able to leave the anaconda's gravity well pretty darn quick.

Anyone and FD, give me a good reason why I should play open ever again for power play? I could have done the same bit of work without any risk if I played solo. Solo I would have received my merits and the undermining would have counted. Since I played open all the work I did to undermine and advance myself in my powere was for naught. I think this is one of the reasons Offline play wasn't released. No one would play Open when you have to deal with this stuff.

See you in Solo.

you are aware that mass lock prevents you jumping back into SC, but not hyperspace? next time you need to get out of somewhere in a hurry try targeting the next system over and hyperspacing, no mass lock, no problem.

If you target another system your ship will ignore mass inhibitors . If you attempt to return to SC after interdiction you will face mass inhibitors.

And you don't have to run to Solo. There is Mobius if you don't want PvP.

But you should report the insta-interdiction thing as a bug. Might help stop others getting the same issue in the future.

Did I miss that whole hyperspace versus SC somewhere? This is the first I have heard of it. The interdiction is a pain but I will chalk this up as a very costly learning experience. So I can hyperspace as long as I am not mass locked but SC is affected by mass inhibitors. I still think that my speed should have erased the inhibitor in a quick matter of time. I did do the Nanomam run under 5 parsecs.

Thanks everyone for the education, she can be a cruel mistress.

Don't worry i also learned this lesson in the hard way; after this lesson i was able to choose every time if i stay or fight.

I'd always wondered about the no mass lock for hyperspace jumps. Dosen't seem to make sense... Is it not a bug?

Well to be fair the game is called Elite: Dangerous. But each to their own.

So FD "makes" you run back to solo because you weren't allowed to undermine another faction freely without any kind of opposition...

Yes, because I can do the same with zero amount of risk. If I want max rewards with a very slim chance of failure then I am "made" to play the game in Solo mode. One definition of made is to be assured of success or fortune. A made man for example. I am not guaranteed success or fortune in Open so I am "made" to play in solo.

I'm sure it has to do with the effects of large bodies in space. Consider how annoying it would be to have find a spot in a system with no gravitational influence of planets, satellites, and stars, just to jump to another system. The spool-up time is longer for a jump, that for going into SC.

Not a bug, it was always intended to work this way. I think the rational is that to supercruise you need to distort space and any significant mass close by inhibits this. To hyper jump you leave normal space altogether so near by mass makes no difference.

The fact that you are not guaranteed success is what makes it interesting for me. I like the challenge and the surprises the game (and other players), throw at you.

Sorry if I am being thick, but the wing that interdicted yo were players I take it.
Were you travelling through their power's space (actually were they even pledged)?

A war is a war and in a war there are enemies to deal with. I've never heard a soldier complaining that he can't fight because everybody is shooting at him.

OP: You don't need to go into Solo.
Lots of different groups out there to choose from.

Or even create your own. ;)
