Thanks for your hard work Frontier Devs!

Thank you from myself and an awful lot of other players who expect and understand that we are on a journey and are enjoying - almost all of - the challenges along the way.

The ED universe is shaping up to be a wonderful and continuously surprising place. The updates have been an overwhelming success and have added greatly to game-play for me. The new route finder is jaw-droppingly quick and simple.

I think the way that the mythos is being slowly woven into place, with new curiosities and the promise of new ships has a really positive effect.
I'm looking forward to experiencing it as it progresses!

The negative comments have been disappointing over the last couple of months, but it seems people more rarely seek out the forums to praise the game than to bring up issues, understandably. Those people are out there playing and loving it. A lot of the disgruntled voices seem to be from people who misunderstood the process they were buying into, or didn't read professional reviews to grasp what is being made here and how. Sure there're inconvenienced folk with bug issues, but that's the case for any static software, let alone gigantic persistent play environments that are constantly being developed.

I'd love to have access to more frequent updates on the progress, but when 1.1 came out, I have to say, I could see where the time had been spent!

Anyway, thanks for all the hard work. I hope that morale is high and that David is letting you out for lunch, dinner and sleep... and no more!

Cheers!

1+ rep fore that!
but yeah ive been here since the beta and im still finding new stuff.
the other day i found a earth like planet except it was a swamp planet!!

I came for bounty hunting back in december loved it played it every day and now we have 1.1 and i cant say the same atm. Im barely hanging in there as a smugler now, im forced to be a criminal because bounty hunting is not worth doing atm.

And i wont do trade runs since thats not what i think is fun!

The 'top bounties of the system' looked quite lucrative to me. I am not chasing them yet because I am not confident that I am experienced enough as a pilot to protect my asset. I have to say, with the increased level of interdiction, I am finding trading and fighting a lot more fun. I just need to get better at scanning before killing :)

Haha yes, those top bounties were too enticing for me to resist. I've taken on two of them and unfortunately had my nose bloodied both times, but that's to be expected for a rookie who's only had the game about three days.
I did manage to escape on both occasions but the second time, my cockpit was breached and I ran out of oxygen just as I was pulling up to dock. What a rush! lol

Youch! Yes, the number of times I have had to limp back to the nearest station whimpering..! In time we 'meek' shall take them all by storm ;)

WiseDuck, a bit cynical there perhaps. I simply hadn't seen a thread which showed gratitude - which I feel - and which supported the devs. I know that when you are working on a project long-term and you are making revisions based on feedback, you mostly hear what is wrong. I just like the idea of trying to moderate that flow by saying how right many think it is and how much better still it is becoming. Devs have feelings too ;)

I hesitated to post and asked around to see if anyone else had seen a thread to express that and the only replies were that they hadn't. Apart from one guy who said he'd posted a thank you a long time ago. I don't know what use the rep is tbh (I am still mostly harmless in game so my avatar / name caption seems fitting :).

Hope you are both having a great time in space anyhoo :)

Yep definitely enjoying it - started off trading to get a cobra (found out about rares so not too draggy) then with the 1.1 update went exploring (first discoverer on about 40 systems) then with the increased interdictions decided to take a risk so bought a viper and am currently hanging around anarchies fighting stuff easy enough, investigating USSs and doing some smuggling. All with the knowledge I have not even started to scratch the surface of what is already here yet alone what is to come.

I came here to play a computer game where I get to fly spaceships and by god I got a computer game where I get to fly spaceships. No complaints from me.

Ha ha here here!

I mostly play late at night with the volume down so I can listen out for the very young ones. Playing at the weekend with the volume up higher, I was very impressed at the detail there was in the sound too. Way more atmospheric. With headphones on I suppose you get the best of near-field listening and ability to monitor your environment. I need to make a seat with a built in subwoofer and fold across hotas platform and then I think I will be about as immersed as it gets. Until I get Oculus Rift. "I... may be some time."

Commenting on everything that is good will seldom lead to change. Pointing out the bad will.

That said, its a difference between being critical and being negative.
And overall ive enjoyed my share of ED to make the investment well worth, though im not playing much at all right now. Following the forums and news with excitement for the future though and will be ready to jump right in again when time (or thargoids!) come!

Hi Enride.

Yes, critical threads that aren't just rattle throwing are vital and help to usefully discuss and diagnose problems. I am not saying people should only skip through the galaxy stroking hot plasma unicorns :) I just think there's a lot of hot-tempered attacks on the game and generally a lack of recognition that the game is a platform on which an epic is being fleshed out.

IMHO People who bought the game knowing what it was, are less likely to be those who are shredding it on review sites and forums, giving it 0 ratings etc.

My feeling of the need for this thread and those similar is to balance. The need to discus and debug, to criticise to encourage change and so on do not preclude the name to give recognition to the great steps that are being taken 1.1 onwards to deliver the game that we all enjoy and look forward to playing. I would guess that Braben is quite a taskmaster (successful businessmen often are) and there are people working on this game that I hope are getting their milk and cookies.

That's a fair point. Good, well thought out criticism is an important part of making a quality product. Unfortunately, the majority of complaints essentially come down to "this game doesn't match up perfectly with my expectations, now change everything to suit me".

FD needs to hear approval of things as they need to hear criticism of things. Both combined make picture whole. Drowning out positive response which is what lot of General Discussion members have done lately is not right way to go about it.

What I have seen lately is outright hostility and even attacks on devs claiming they are lying about features, especially at background sim end. Not only that's arrogant, but also it just creates toxic atmosphere here which is reason why many people with good pros/cons arguments have left.

That's why I approve this thread :) Thanks devs, and here's my list of bugs with all info you could ask :D

Absolutely barcode and enough disgrunts that can't be pacified - because they were off in their own universe long before ED came out - can be demoralising for a team.

The way I work relies on clients telling me what they like and don't like so I can refine their product. However, when they occasionally just say "Meh, its rubbish" without giving any particular reason (well nothing that isn't a universal constant) it gets very frustrating...

Its bitter being in the consumer industry these days... i recently witnessed people on the Kerbal Space Program forums lamenting about some paid DLCs (made up as a possibility by a forum member, just asking what you would like to pay for more content)... many people reacted almost aggressively... to be honest... the game costs 20 bucks... about 10 people worked hard on a daily basis for more than 3 years now and delivering fantastic work... who even dares to care about paying em 10 bucks more? I really dont understand this. The KSP forum is a real nice place to be on the other hand, this thread was an absolute exception, but it shows how some people think on this planet.

On the other hand, i really like how this forum here is developing and it turns out, that even the most critic persons and some of the usual ranters showed a change in behavior and even opinion in the last few days. And threads like these pop up more and more these days. Maybe FD is exactly on the right course now. The community base is for sure :). Glad to be here.

Good to hear that Frank_G, thanks for that.

I am not here very often and did search back for a day or so, but found nothing to comment on instead of starting my own thread. It was quite soon after 1.1 and I was thrilled while others were reporting all the things they'd found wrong. So some of the bile might have been transient.

As you say, consumer's feeling of entitlement is at epic levels now. In the service industries it is pretty hard to stay sane under fire...

Jim

Yes, got to say, I'm enjoying this game and I've been playing it since June. Doing something different every day. Thanks to everyone, especially the Devs, who brought back my favourite game of all time.
