Thargiods ..nice challenge

“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time”

I'm not a combat specialist, so I'm not especially interested in the fighting Thargoids at present. For me, the challenge is in stealing their loot before they get their tentacles on it .... and getting away .... that's another story for another thread. It's very challenging and doesn't require pew pew, so FD are to be congratulated for this aspect of the game design.

Like real life situations, I suspect Thargoids come in different colours. Maybe we should examine behavior first and realise there are good and bad guys of every creed, culture and SPECIES.

Every encounter I've had bar one, has been peaceful, even a hyperdiction, it was just being nosy, the one aggressive I had was my fault, I attempted to thrust past one that kept tracking me, ended up too close, it launched it's drones, I got out with 56% hull remaining.

It could be that they scoff at us, decide we're not worth the effort, counter punchers, or some might want to be friends, but as I've said, so far with the exception of one, they've all been peaceful encounters.

I wonder if on the Thargoid forums there is an alien trader just crying his eyes out about being unfairly ganked by SDC?
More importantly is there one side on there saying, "this is why we play in Thargobius group" while another side says, "Git gud you scrub. Stop letting the race down!"

:D

The Thargoids are presenting a greater challenge than PvP .... they have really ramped up today ! So much for the sit and watch and try talking poetry to them [knocked out]

PVP, you rarely get a fighting chance and a very small window to learn anything :) There are some very good P shooters out there. :)

First comes the anti-Thargoid weapon, and the elite player wings kill the aliens. Solo players complain that they’re locked out because no friends.

Then comes the anti-Thargoid hull, and a few serious players start winning solo. Casual players complain that it’s still too hard.

Then comes the anti Thargoid shields, hat, galoshes, cologne, knickers, etc. Everyone starts farming Thargoids solo. Whole community complains it’s ‘too easy’, and a ‘money exploit’.

FDEV jumps off a plane with no parachute, giving up on a hopeless, whiny community that will never be satisfied.

That sums up the behaviour of the human race pretty good :)

I think the challenge level currently is just about right. High level players can defeat them solo in a maxed out fully engineered cutter, FAS or dropship; skilled players can defeat them in wings of regular ships; and the rest of the players need to RUN. This is what endgame PVE should feel like.

I fear that they will either continue to add more modules, thereby making it easier. I would love to take a month to engineer a purpose-designed hulltank cutter to thrash the bugs (I'm thinking a huge longrange plasma accelerator, and 6 missiles); but I'm afraid there will be new modules making such a build uneccessary by then...
