Thargoid Data points

I have scanned several thargoid data points but have no idea what to do with the data. I can't even find where to view information about the scan. Any advice?

If it's thargoid mats you're talking about, there is currently no known use for them with the exception of thargoid probe bits which are used to unlock Palin.

I'm sorry, I have no idea what 'Thargoid mats' are? Do you mean materials? And what is a Palin?

When I scan a data point on one of there planet bases, there is a suggestion the scan has information about the structure, but I don't know where in the menus to see this data. Any ideas?

You can find information about the scans if you go into your list of currently owned materials and scans (default key is 4, then look at the last tab I think, it also shows you cargo, passengers, mining kit, what-have-you).
You can then look at everything you are carrying (permanently - you don't loose them when you get killed, thankfully) and learn information about them; what they are, where you can get more of them (vaguely), and an idea of what they can be used for. Mostly engineering or reload synthesis.

As CMDR metatheurgist said they don't have a use currently, although in the future they could well have. Although driving round and into Thargoid bases to scan these data points is one of the best times I've had as far as pure exploration in ED goes.

Thargoid Mats = Thargoid Materials.... that is things like "Thargoid Carapace", "Thargoid Organic Circuitry", "Thargoid Sensor Fragments" etc. As metatheurgist suggested, Thargoid Sensor Fragments are used to unlock the Engineer, Palin,... but Metatheurgist isn't quite right though. Other materials do get used in synthesis. Following are thargoid materials used in this process:

AX Small Calibre Rounds - Weapon Parts, Thargoid Carapace
AX Flax Munitions - Wreckage Components, Thargoid Sensor Fragments, Thargoid Technology Components, Weapon Parts
AX Explosive Ordnance - Ship Flight Data, Propulsion Elements, Bio-Mechanical Components

What I think you're referring to is the data points attached to the structures. These give you "Data" which appears under the data tab of your inventory, as below:
128577

Specifically, you'll get Thargoid Structural Data, Residue Data and Material Composition Data. Metatheurgist is right about those... they don't get used for anything at the moment.

So let me get this straight. You can scan data points which alludes to information that might be useful but you can't see it, yet. And there's nothing we can use it for, yet. The game seems a little incomplete to me.

I realise the game is continually updating, bringing in new content, but why bring in new content that, at the surface, is useless.

Don't get me wrong, I really like ED, particularly its visuals but things like this seem half-thought out.

Not sure what you mean by "Can't see it yet"... the data is there in your inventory, but there's nothing to do with it yet, correct.

Just for information, since based on your Palin comment you don't seem to be fully across Engineers/Brokers/Synthesis.... there's three different types of "thing" used in these parts of the game. "Raw Materials", "Manufactured Materials" and "Data". So this "data" isn't something you can thumb through and read like entries in a codex, it's just a quantity of a thing you provide to an Engineer/Broker/Synthesis process to get ammunition, or unlock an item/modification.

But as mentioned, specifically for Thargoid Structural Data, Residue Data and Material Composition Data, there's no use yet. I don't mind that things may not have a use straight away, but the glacial pace of the Thargoid story arc and the continued lack of any meaningful activity other than "Pew Pew" with Thargoids do create certain frustrations.

Yea, I meant 'thumbing' through the data. It would be pretty cool if could see what the scanner results were.

I've only skimmed engineers, managing to increase my FSD drive but that's it.

The only thing you can read is whatever message you get in your inbox when you scan the data point. These have been the same since the structures first appeared though, and just contained "hints" that it was the Mycoid virus which damaged the Thargoids.
