Thargoid legs - communication options?

Wouldn't be surprised if there's some 'interpret their forehead lights' stuff in there.

(And super conjectural, but given the long term aspiration to add complex animal life, they might have passive / friendly variants or behaviours etc.)

Just pray 'communication' is some subtle layering of techniques (find their craft in the right locale, gain access via Encounters of The Third Kind emissions, approach them on foot slowly in full view to avoid startling, ensuring you're downwind of an ammonia outlet ;))

Rather than just booping them...

I'd break the ice by asking them about their 1st reverse-engineered Docking Computer and what happened at Obsidian Orbital when they tried it :D

3 Thargoids walk into a bar...
Do you...
1) Buy them a drink
2) play a game of zero g pool
3)work out a good trade

Or will it just be shoot them or shoot them and shoot them?

What would even be safe?
A chilled beer would burn them wouldn't it?

Frottage them aggressively while whispering how they secrete less foul and slithery juicings from their carapace then any other psychotic exo-skeletal life forms you know.

Are you sure you have all the options there? You do know that all the Thargoids we encounter in this game are female?

See ... that's been the problem so far .....

What's wrong with:
7) We come in peace, take me to your leader :)

They'd eat you alive, literally...
From the original Elite manual:
INSECTOIDS. The most dangerous insectoidal life form is the Thargoid, which is mentioned in the Combat section. Insectoidals are usually highly intelligent, often existing as a group mind. There is rarely any individuality among insectoids, and the trader must beware making deals in such a way. One life form builds earth cities up to four miles high, and over four million drones live in the middle levels. According to legend, any trader who voluntarily ascends the earth passageway from ground to upper surface of these immense mounds is honored with the rare title Ascender of the Scent City. And then consumed alive. But trading with insectoids can be immensely profitable, as there are so many of them (to trade in wrist watches, for example, means two to four watches per individual in a clone-group of perhaps ten thousand).
