Thargoid Lightning attack weirdness

Hey all,

So, the Thargoid "lightning" attack that can slow your ship. I've been caught by it a few times in the past, but I'm now pretty good at not being in the way of it. A couple of times this evening, I've seen a Thargoid use this attack on another ship - AI AX Pilot in my case, as no other Players (PG) are around. However, for some reason, while the other ship is being hit and I'm just a passing observer, I too have been locked in place.

It happened again just moments ago. I could clearly see the Thargoid shooting the other ship yet, suddenly, I was frozen in place. I mean frozen, not moving at all - Jameson Memorial was in view, so it was VERY clear that I wasn't moving - yet my speed showed a positive number. Basically, I was entirely frozen in place and lost all control of my ship, except all the lights were still on.

Any idea what might have happened here? The Thargoid Lightning attack doesn't have a large AoE does it? I mean, I cannot affect ships that are not directly in the line of fire can it?

Just a little puzzled as to what happened exactly, as I had little fear of the attack as it i) wasn't aimed at me, ii) I was some distance away and iii) the lightning effect didn't even get close. However, I still got caught by something.

Oh, it likely was some sort of Instancing issue or crash, as I did get booted out (no message) moments later. I suspect a certain sequence of events is causing a crash / freeze of some kind. Anyone else suffered weirdness like this?

Edit: It looks like an Interceptor can still turn while the lightning effect is active. I just had one attack another ship, then rapidly - they really do turn fast - point the lightning at me. I managed to dodge however, and not get slowed. My instrument panel flickered for a moment, bu speed was maintained. Dunno what happened that first time, but as the game crashed I assume some thing went a bit wrong lol.
